2021 Honda Accord Reviews Summary

For the 2021 model year, Honda is taking the Accord in a more elevated direction. The company has refined the Accord’s features list, added a trim level, and priced it right to compete against other heavyweights in the industry. Honda has made safety a priority in the 2021 Accord, helping this fresh version earn high praise.

2022 Nissan Altima Reviews Summary

The Nissan Altima offers buyers a wide range of choices with two engines, front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), and five trim levels. But in a crowded midsize sedan segment that includes the ubiquitous Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord—not to mention a handful of other competent entries—the Altima has its work cut out for it. For 2022, Nissan tweaks the Altima's packaging, expanding the availability of the sporty Midnight Edition option package to include the SR trim with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

Look and feel
2021 Honda Accord
9/10
2022 Nissan Altima
9/10
The 2021 Honda Accord aims for the top with refined features, an added trim level, and competitive pricing. Honda prioritizes safety in the 2021 Accord, helping it earn acclaim. The 2022 Nissan Altima offers two engines and front-wheel or all-wheel drive over five trims. However, strong competition from the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord means the Altima has its work cut out. For 2022, Nissan expands availability of the sporty Midnight Edition package.
Performance
2021 Honda Accord
9/10
2022 Nissan Altima
7/10
CarGurus experts rate the 2021 Honda Accord at 9 out of 10 for performance versus 7 out of 10 for the 2022 Nissan Altima. The Accord offers a 192-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder or a 252-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The smaller engine nets an EPA-estimated 38 mpg highway, while the 2.0-liter hustles the Accord to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. Front-wheel drive comes standard.. Nissan gives Altima buyers a choice between a 188-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder or an innovative 2.0-liter VC-Turbo making a more vigorous 248 hp. The VC-Turbo changes its compression ratio on demand for efficiency or better acceleration. However, it is only available with front-wheel drive on the SR trim, so it fails to realize the Altima's full performance potential.
Form and function
2021 Honda Accord
9/10
2022 Nissan Altima
6/10
Functionality ratings give the Accord another win, with CarGurus scoring it 9 out of 10 next to 6 out of 10 for the Altima. The Accord nails daily drivability with seating for five adults, abundant passenger space and 16.7 cubic feet of trunk capacity. Dual-zone climate control and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Upper trims gain amenities like ventilated front seats and wireless charging. The Altima competently covers family-hauling basics with comfortable seats, accessible rear seats, and 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk. But thick rear roof pillars and the descending trunk lid supports can compromise cargo loading and rear visibility. The Altima falls short of standing out with exceptional functionality.
Technology
2021 Honda Accord
9/10
2022 Nissan Altima
8/10
CarGurus technology ratings slightly favor the Accord 9 to 8 out of 10 here. All Accords come with an 8-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and smartphone integration. Available upgrades include satellite radio, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, premium audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a head-up display showing navigation, vehicle data and more. Even base Altima S models have Bluetooth, voice commands, and a 5-inch driver information display. All but the S get a 7-inch multifunction display and 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, and available upgrades like a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio.

Both the 2021 Honda Accord and 2022 Nissan Altima earn a high 9 points out of 10 from CarGurus experts for safety. All Accords have forward collision and lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and other driver aids. Upgraded trims add blind-spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and parking sensors. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2021 Accord its highest Top Safety Pick+ honor. The Altima comes well-equipped with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and other aids. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awards it five out of five stars for overall crash protection. The IIHS also names it a Top Safety Pick+ winner.
