The Jaecoo J5 EV is set for its Malaysian arrival soon, as shown by a teaser from the Chery brand. Launched in Indonesia and Thailand last year, the battery-electric version of the Jaecoo J5 arrived in those markets with a 58.9 kWh battery, offering 461 km of range on the NEDC test cycle (400 km WLTP).
In Indonesia, the J5 EV is stated as supporting DC charging at up to 130 kW, enabling a 30-80% charge in 28 minutes. Also included is V2L, supplying up to 3.3 kW for electrical devices or appliances. Powertrain for the J5 EV is a front-mounted motor that outputs 211 PS and 288 Nm, which enables a 0-100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 175 km/h.
Measuring 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,650 mm tall with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the Jaecoo J5 EV is comparable in exterior size with the likes of the Honda HR-V, Proton X50 and Chery Tiggo Cross on sale in Malaysia. Inside, the J5 EV has a 35 litre frunk and a rear luggage compartment that holds 480 litres, or up to 1,284 litres with the rear seats folded.
Features seen on the J5 EV overseas include 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic gloss roof with powered sunshade, powered tailgate, synthetic leather upholstery, powered front seats with ventilation function, a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, eight speakers, 64-colour ambient lighting, six airbags, a 50-watt wireless charging pad and telematics.
For safety features, the J5 EV gets ADAS with 17 functions, including AEB, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring and more. In Indonesia, the Jaecoo J5 EV was priced from 249.9 million to 299.9 million rupiah (RM63k-75k), while the battery-electric B-SUV in Thailand was priced from 549k baht (RM71k) to 679k (RM88k).
