The Perak road transport department (JPJ) has inspected 1,662 vehicles in the first two days of its May 24-31 Hari Raya Aidiladha Special Operation (Ops HRAA), with action taken against 206 vehicles for various offences, Bernama reports.
“The top three offences detected over these two days were having no valid road tax (139 cases), no insurance (119 cases) and driving without a licence (103 cases).
“In addition, we also detected two offences committed by express buses during an undercover riding operation, where the drivers were found continuously driving in the right lane,” Perak JPJ director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan said yesterday, adding that 510 P22 notices were issued and 53 urine tests conducted were all negative.
Ops HRAA focuses on nine major offences including speeding, running red lights, double-line overtaking and phone usage while driving. “Perak JPJ is also conducting bus inspections at depots from May 24-26 to ensure that these vehicles are at optimum safety and technical levels before carrying passengers,” said Mohammad Yusoff.
He also revealed that between January and May this year, the 2026 Commercial Vehicles Special Ops inspected 23,287 commercial vehicles, acted against 2,923 and impounded 44, involving 6,600 P22 notices, 499 Section 63(3) notices and 41 Section 64(1) notices.
“The highest recorded offences for commercial vehicles were driving without a vocational licence (999 cases), driving without a Competent Driving Licence (CDL) (772 cases) and overloading (677 cases),” said Mohammad Yusoff.
Perak JPJ also ramped up its Ops Luxury during the same period, impounding 60 luxury vehicles including Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Alphard and Porsche Cayenne models.
“Most of them involved offences such as expired road tax and insurance, as well as driving without a valid licence. For these, Perak JPJ issued 199 P22 notices and 60 Section 64(1) notices,” he said.
