2026 Toyota Yaris Cross gets 2,298 bookings within two weeks of launch – 1.5L NA and Hybrid; fr RM100k

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has announced it received 2,298 bookings for the Toyota Yaris Cross within two weeks of the B-SUV’s launch on May 8, 2026. The Yaris Cross may be the twin sister to the Perodua Traz but it is assembled in Bukit Raja alongside the Vios Hybrid, and not in Rawang – other differences here.

Two variants are offered to customers, starting with the 1.5S that is priced at RM99,900 on-the-road without insurance. This is powered by a 2NR-VE 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine making 106 PS (105 hp or 78 kW) and 138 Nm of torque, with drive sent to the front wheels via a CVT.

For RM10,000 more at RM109,900, you can get a hybrid version (1.5S HEV) of the Yaris Cross that features a 2NR-VEX, also a 1.5 litre NA engine but running on the Atkinson cycle. Serving up 91 PS (90 hp or 67 kW) and 121 Nm, it is augmented by an electric motor rated at 80 PS (79 hp or 59 kW) and 141 Nm for a total system output of 111 PS (110 hp or 82 kW). The hybrid variant comes with an e-CVT and is front-wheel drive too.

Regardless of which variant you go for, the Yaris Cross comes standard with six airbags and the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite, which includes includes pre-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention with steering assist, lane keeping control, front departure alert and auto high beam.

The 1.5S HEV gets illuminated scuff plates and a lamp for the front leg room, both of which are not listed for the 1.5S. It also gets a wireless phone charger as standard, which is an option for the petrol-only variant. The 1.5S does come with paddle shifters for those who want to cycle through the CVT’s seven virtual speeds, but its black leather seats lack perforation as they do in the hybrid.

Can someone do a deep dive into the Bukit Raja assembly?

Like is Rawang doing the stamping and then Bukit Raja does the welding?

If Veloz hybrid becomes available in Malaysia, will Bukit Raja also start assembling the Veloz?

customers chose reliability and japanese resale value over rubbish cheap unreliable chinese garbage dumped over here because they want to clear stock. Toyota will be a number one choice for malaysians if BYD ev continue to be haram by Miti.

    • Spoken like a true crony. Let me educate your peabrain for a minute. What you MITI and P1/2 fanboys want to dress up as “protection” is really a license to price gouge. Without the protections these losers have to actually compete and innovate which they don’t want to do. Without the Chinese brands putting immense pressure there would be no inventive to do anything at all. Look at that garabage P2 CEO claiming no uplifts for Bezza until 2030, he said that with a laugh. You’d be insane not to punch that thief square in the face for that insolence while Chinese firms bring substantial updates every year. What MITI and the cronies want is to ensure the ceiling is artificially so high that when they rob you left right and center you’d go ‘wow but its still cheaper than conti cars’ when really it could be as cheap as 40-50K for what they will charge you upwards of 100K without any competition.

Competition breeds innovation, protectionism breeds complacency, laziness and pure greed.

Truth to be told, its good that China cant compete..our industry is not as big as theirs..picking the sentence u said ” substantial updates every year”, just imagine how are the spareparts gonna be? Every year need to create new spareparts…
Plus now with all the softwares??? Our market is not able to do that…

No surprise. It is common good sales for Toyota when new models launched. Only thing need to concern is how long they can keep for high sales. Btw I think many people will choose the hybrid variant over the NA. For 1.5NA I rather take the Veloz than the Yaris Cross with bigger cabin space and large trunk (when 3rd row seats folded).

That’s totally unexpected, given so many condescending comments this model received prior to its launch. I guess even their biggest rival, Honda, is surprised this car is selling like hot cakes while they continue to mourn for their financial loss

Not sure what you’re comparing to but 2298 units in two weeks is quite remarkable given the economic situation. People could’ve bought cheaper Perodua Traz, remember? BTW, this car costs six fugue. How much does S70 cost? You’re comparing apples to oranges.

proton S70 costs up to 80k. Toyota Traz costs up to 105k . its really not that far apart in terms of pricing.

25k price difference may sound not much but I’m sure B40 won’t take a look at this Yaris cross. They might however consider S70. That’s the difference.

I guess people didn’t realized that they are buying a Daihatsu with Toyota badge. Same case for 2026 Vios and Veloz.

comedy car. you must absolutely hate GWM and byd to buy this rubbish. If you buy this car vs a GWM or byd at that price you better go back to pre-school and redo your education.

The numbers of orders is testamount to the poor education standards of Malaysia.

Unintelligent people end up buying this car for a premium while Perodua sells the same car for 20k less. The difference in specs is not at alll worth 20k.

This is without even talking about Chinese cars at the same price range which is leaps and bounds better than the Toyota. I guess it’s the brand name
