The engine is identical for both the Alpine and Desert model variants of the Tiger 900, an inline three-cylinder, 12-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled mill displacing 888 cc. Meanwhile, the desert gets spoked tubeless wheels, with a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear, fitted with Bridgestone Battleax Adventure tyres in 90/90 and 150/70 sizes.

Additionally, the Alpine comes with engine protection bars while the Desert adds fuel tank crash bars. Suspension for the Alpine is by Marzocchi, while the Desert gets Showa suspension.

Marzocchi upside-down front forks on the Alpine Edition are 45 mm in diameter, giving 180 mm of travel, with manually adjustable rebound and compression damping. At the rear, an electronically adjustable Marzocchi monoshock gives 170 mm of travel, adjustable for preload and rebound.

On the Desert edition, front suspension is done by Showa with 45 mm diameter upside-down forks, fully-adjustable for preload, rebound and compression, and 240 mm of travel. The rear end is propped up by a Showa monoshock with 230 mm of suspension travel and manually adjustable for preload and rebound.
