At Omoda & Jaecoo’s celebration of one million models produced last night, Chery International president Zhang Guibing shared the future product plan for the twin brands. The biggest news concerns the Jaecoo side, which is set to pivot even more towards off-roaders in an effort to provide some differentiation from Omoda and other Chery group marques like iCaur and Lepas.
The list of forthcoming models include an entry-level J3, a flagship J9 and two vehicles codenamed the T1TP and KP31. The first of these is set to be a small SUV with a length of around 4,200 mm, meaning it will be smaller than B-segment SUVs like the Honda HR-V (4,385 mm). As for the J9, we first heard about it back in 2024, when it was announced that it would be offered in both electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
Jaecoo still hasn’t revealed any details about the J9, let alone what it looks like. We could perhaps look at the Fulwin T11, a stately three-row range-extended electric SUV available in 265 PS/324 Nm rear-wheel-drive and 469 PS/634 Nm all-wheel-drive versions. Both come with a 156 PS/220 Nm 1.5 litre turbo four-cylinder engine, 220 km of CLTC-rated pure electric range and a total range of 1,400 km.
Then there are the two other models, and while their identities were not explicitly made known, eagle-eyed readers may remember that the T1TP codename was used on a transformable unibody pick-up/SUV – this eventually became the Chery Tiggo V that was unveiled at the ongoing Auto China show in Beijing. The massive vehicle has been tipped to offer petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains, the latter likely featuring O&J’s new Super Hybrid System – Plug-in hybrid (SHS-P) branding.
Meanwhile, the KP31 was shown in concept form – also with Chery badging – in Australia in late February, with the interior revealed earlier this month. A proper body-on-frame pick-up with front-end styling akin to the Ford Bronco, it’s set to be the world’s first truck to be powered by a diesel plug-in hybrid system, with a petrol PHEV variant joining it later on.
As for Omoda, the more youthfully-styled sister brand is set to gain a new entry-level model called the Omoda 2. With the new Omoda C4 already on the smaller side for an SUV, we could see this car take the form of a hatchback, although no details – including whether the car will come in combustion-engined, hybrid and/or electric forms – have been revealed thus far.
Despite Jaecoo being billed as the more rugged of the O&J duo, it’s been made known that Omoda will also receive an “off-road crossover”. Codenamed the T1QC, it will sit between the Omoda 5 (sold as the Chery O5 in Malaysia) and the Omoda C7, but positioned above those in price. Expect the car to be largely in the vein of iCaur models, with boxier 4×4-esque styling but resolutely SUV unibody underpinnings.
