The KA4-facelift Kia Carnival 8-seater has been launched in Malaysia. Positioned between the RM189k 11-seater (2-3-3-3) and the RM249k 7-seater (2-2-3), the 8-seater asks for RM238,888 nett (RM239,849 OTR before insurance). All Carnivals are locally-assembled (CKD) in Kulim, Kedah and come with a five-year/150,000 km warranty.
Here you get a 2-3-3 seating layout with leatherette seats. The 40:20:40-split second row is detachable and slidable – the middle seat can face forwards or backwards while the outer seats can be reversed by switching their positions. The 60:40-split third row folds flat into the floor.
The 8-seater shares the 7-seater’s 12 Bose speakers (11-seater gets just six, unbranded), 19-inch alloys (18s for 11-seater), four-way lumbar (two-way for 11-seater), full ADAS (11-seater only has a blind-spot monitor) and heated/ventilated front seats, but of course it omits the 7-seater’s middle-row ‘Relaxation’ captain seats, which are also heated/ventilated.
Everything else is status quo, including ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch instrument panel seamlessly connected to a 12.3-inch touch-screen, a 202 PS/440 Nm 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine, an eight-speed auto, eight airbags, a claimed WLTP combined fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 km, a claimed WLTP range of 900 km and the same four colours – Meteor Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Astra Blue and Jet Black.

Kia Carnival 8-seater in Malaysia
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.

Kia secret of success in Malaysia in the late 1990s – sell honest and reasonably good cars for the price as low as possible as permitted by the govt (no direct hit against Proton at 50-65k).
Kia cars are getting better than Proton nowadays, except those with Geely DNA but to sell it in the region of 200k will not make wonders to the sales figures.
But can Kia goes back to the 70-100k pool? Its a do or die situation. Except, kia may die either way.
Bermaz Kia was a good example. Good luck.
this is a really comfortable people mover too bad diesel engine is killing it off
Lol, Diesel? In this economy? Good luck.
If diesel price is a concern to you, then you’re clearly not in the target market. It’s really that simple.
kia carnival is a daily driver used by middle income folks, you think its a weekend supercar? delusional.
then this car is for no-one because literally everyone who is interested in this car wont be so dumb to pay double the price of budi95 against diesel per liter.
Lol. U ingat ini bently. Comment use logic abit please. Don’t talk rubbish
Same same…
with the surging price of diesel, can sell ar?
Really unfortunate timing for the launch of this car with diesel powertrain.
malaysia kia management drinking daun ketum water is it until so out of reality and die die want to sell diesel car
Why KSM do not want to introduce the 1.6 turbo petrol hybrid same as SG and TH market? because of the hybrid? or the pricing?
Consider selling the petrol hybrid in Malaysia that is already available in other countries. Then can avoid paying high prices for diesel. Better proposition. People will still consider as the mileage is better than EV MPV like Denza D9, XPeng, Zeekr, etc, that are still at a higher price point. Need to price it well.
Diesel engine, siap
this is a good car. but the insistence of selling the outdated diesel engine rather than the 1.6l turbo hybrid like others is killing the brand. Maybe they have not got their return on the Kulim assembly plant thats why
Since Kia official published will refresh the marketing strategies and reformation of the management in Malaysia.
To be honest, with the current competition with many other brands and model. Pricing and specifications still the key factors where will attract former Kia buyers return and new buyers to buy Kia cars.
However, with the pricing over 200k, sorry to say that this will not make any differences with existing Kia sales regardless how many times Kia reorganizing the formation of the management team.
As many people comments, Kia should bring in the turbo hybrid engine series cars. Yet, offer a more competitive advantage pricing and package like free service and extended warranty to 7 or 8 years. Offer free service and warranty as worry free to all new Kia owners.
Best is every model offer only 1 variant full specifications. A segment car like Picanto price below 60k, B segment like Rio below 75k, C segment below 90k, D segment below 120k. SUV like Sonet below 80k, Seltos and Caren below 100k, Sportage below 120k, Sorento and Carnival below 160k. Just my day dreaming that I believe this is impossible that Kia will offer in this way. But if Kia can make this work. It will push back Kia to a new legend sales record. The monthly sales data will show the results. Else, it is what it is for Kia journey here.
Good luck Kia!
