2026 BMW iX3 40 revealed – NA5 EV gets new entry-level variant with 325 PS, 500 Nm, up to 636 km WLTP

The BMW iX3 has gained a new entry-level ‘40’ variant, which joins the existing iX3 50 xDrive that was first announced when the NA5-generation electric SUV made its global debut back in September last year.

Powered by BMW’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive technology developed specifically for the Neue Klasse with an 800-volt electrical architecture, the iX3 40 offers up to 636 km following the WLTP standard. This is less than the iX3 50 xDrive that is capable of 805 km, with the reason being a smaller battery.

Where the iX3 50 xDrive’s nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery has a usable energy capacity of 108.7 kWh, the iX3 40 has just 82.6 kWh. DC fast charging is also at a lower peak power of 300 kW (instead of 400 kW), while AC charging power is the same at 11 kW (upgradable to 22 kW).

With DC fast charging, it takes 21 minutes to get the battery from a 10-80% state of charge (SoC), identical to the iX3 50 xDrive. Meanwhile, AC charging at the peak of 22 kW will see a 0-100% SoC be achieved in four hours and 15 minutes. Bidirectional charging comes standard on the iX3 40.

As the lack of ‘xDrive’ in the name suggests, the iX3 40’s electric motor only drive one set of wheels. In this case, it’s the ones at the rear, with the e-motor rated at 325 PS (320 hp or 239 kW) and 500 Nm of torque. These figures are less than the iX3 50 xDrive’s 469 PS (463 hp or 345 kW) and 645 Nm, which means the entry-level variant needs 5.9 seconds to get from 0-100 km/h (instead of 4.9 seconds) and will top out at 200 km/h (instead of 210 km/h).

  • Overpriced junk. Once you go China EV or even Hybrids like the GWM JAecoo Omoda BYD, you never go back to garbage German vehicles let alone overpriced turds like these European brands arrogantly assuming Malaysia is a good dumping ground for their unsold trash cans on wheels.

    • Which China EV has WLTP range that can come close to competing with the Germans? iX3 50 xDrive has a range of 805 km.

Long-range Chinese EV SUVs are currently dominated by models offering over 800-900 km CLTC range, with leaders like the BYD Great Tang (up to 950 km) and Denza Z9 GT (over 1,000 km).

what lies ? china EVs can already charge at close to 1 megawatt while this junk bmw maxes out at 400kw.

        • I literally asked about WLTP range and you’re quoting CLTC range. Maybe learn to read, and then read up on the differences between the two test standards. Then use your brain to try and from an argument with some basis.

and use your brain to deduct 15% from the CLTC range to get your WLTP range.
come on man this is kindergarten level math.

          • Deducting 15% is extremely optimistic. Try 20-25%. Articles state the WLTP range of the Denza Z9 GT to be UP TO 800km – for the rear wheel drive variant. Keep in mind that this is a wagon and rear wheel drive, while the iX3 50 is an AWD SUV. Go on and use your kindergarten level math for something that is a literal science requiring more precision than kindergarten level math, that’s probably the max of your capability anyway, which is why you’ll be stuck driving your precious China EVs and not German cars

thats funny, cherry picking AWD while conveniently forgetting that all the ccp cars are a lot bigger and heavier than your puny ix3.

As of early 2026, the longest-range pure electric vehicle (BEV) in China is the Denza Z9, which achieves a CLTC range of up to 1,068 km (663 miles) with a 122.5 kWh battery. Other top contenders include the Denza Z9 GT (1,036 km), Yangwang U7 (1,006 km), and the NIO ET7 (1,044 km)

          • I literally picked a car you mentioned – and the longest range one at that, which happened to be a wagon and AWD. If you feel I was “cherry picking”, please go ahead and name another comparable Chinese AWD SUV that has comparable range to the iX3. Also them being heavier is not something to be proud of – but you seem to think that driving a land boat around is a good thing. Maybe try and actually form a proper counterpoint rather than keep quoting whatever cap ayam AI GPT you’re using that can only give you CLTC range. There’s a reason why the rest of the entire world does not use CLTC and recognises that CLTC is so far away from reality.
