PLUS Malaysia to activate 34 Smart Lane locations for 2026 Hari Raya season; up to 2.3m vehicles expected

PLUS Malaysia has stated that it expects a surge in traffic volume for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday season, when traffic volume is anticipated to reach up to 2.3 million vehicles a day on its highway network from March 18 to 20, and from March 27 to 29. This represents an increase of approximately 21% compared to average daily traffic volume, the highway operator said.

The highway operator will activate 34 Smart Lane locations across its highway network, which includes two additional locations on top of those activated for the recent Chinese New Year travel period, it said.

Smart Lane activation will be identified by signboards, and by green flashing lights at the designated locations when the Smart Lane locations are active, its statement read. Activation times of the Smart Lane locations will however depend to current traffic conditions, it added.

To further aid traffic flow, PLUS Malaysia will open a temporary third lane along the North-South Expressway widening project zone in Johor, between Simpang Renggam and Sedenak from KM45.1 to KM42.5 in the southbound direction from March 18 to April 5.

Additionally, PLUS Malaysia said it will ensure that there are no lane closures on its highways this festive season, including on the Johor lane widening project zone, although exceptions will be made in the event that critical repair works, emergency and accident clearing operations are required.
