Thai vehicles must have ICP or face seizure – JPJ

All Thailand registered vehicles crossing the border into Malaysia must have a valid International Carriage Permit (ICP). This was said by JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli as a reminder for Thai vehicles expected to enter Malaysia during the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

“Any vehicle without an ICP and found more than two kilometres from the border road, if stopped, will be seized. We want to remind them to obtain the ICP at JPJ enforcement control stations at the country’s border,” said Aedy Fadly while speaking to reporters after the Perlis JPJ Jalinan Ramadan Ukhuwah programme in Arau, Perlis.

Aedy Fadly said the ICP will not be issued to any foreign vehicle with outstanding summonses, and the vehicle seized, as reported in The Malay Mail. “Any vehicle with unpaid summonses found to have entered the country will be seized,” he said, while adding that JPJ will also focus this year’s Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which is expected to begin on March 13 and run for two weeks.

The ICP issued by JPJ is free and can be obtained by filling in form JPJK9, with vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore and Brunei exempted. Validity of the ICP is 90 days from entry and can be extended with the approval of the relevant State JPJ Director for an additional period of 90 days, and not exceeding 180 days in one year.
