The updated Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid GR Sport was introduced earlier this month, sporting a few minor visual updates – first seen in Taiwan in late 2025 – to keep the sporty variant fresh in its second full year on the market. The car is now in showrooms, giving us the opportunity to shoot a full gallery.
First up, the price, which is unchanged at RM148,800 on-the-road without insurance, meaning it continues to command an RM8,000 premium over the regular Hybrid. As usual, there’s a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and an additional eight-year (also with unlimited mileage) battery warranty.
Given that the Corolla Cross was only recently facelifted, the changes are few and far between, serving to eliminate the old bodykit’s slightly kitschy ruggedness. We should point out that this Asian-specific kit remains different from the one introduced in Europe and Japan last year and isn’t as overtly sporty.
At the front, the hexagonal grille ditches the black bar that previously housed the Toyota badge, while the surround itself has also been changed from black to body colour. Meanwhile, the front skid plate design is gone, replaced by a jutting silver spoiler.
This design is mirrored in the silver rear valance, which takes the place of the previous black unit that had some odd concentric lines. The overall look is cleaner and less aggressive while still maintaining an edgier aesthetic compared to the standard Corolla Cross.
Beyond the aforementioned tweaks, the exterior remains the same as before, with 18-inch turbine-style two-tone alloy wheels, the facelift’s new LED headlights with four-a-side sequential “eyebrow” indicators and clear LED taillights. The GR Sport is still the only Corolla Cross variant to be offered with a black roof, paired with a choice of three colour options such as Platinum White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic and the Dark Turquoise (looks more blue to me, but I digress) you see here.
Inside, the changes are even more minor, with a smattering of red accents that help tie the interior together. The outgoing model had red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and gearlever gaiter, and this has now been extended to the (previously white-stitched) dashboard and door cards.
You also now get AMG-style red seat belts and a smattering of new GR badges, including on the steering wheel, the front headrest embroidery (it was formerly embossed) and the key (previously with the Corolla Cross script). Lastly, a fabric strip has been added to the centre of the front and rear seat backrests.
The standard kit is untouched and includes front and rear LED fog lights, roof rails, door visors, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone auto air con with rear vents, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 10.1-inch touchscreen head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Qi wireless charger, a dash cam, a 360-degree camera system, six speakers, an RFID tag, security window tint, a luggage tray and a hands-free powered tailgate.
Safety-wise, the GR Sport continues to feature a full range of Toyota Safety Sense driver assists, including autonomous emergency braking, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, parking AEB, pedal misapplication control and auto high beam. Seven airbags – including one for the driver’s knee – and stability control remain standard fitment.
Under the bonnet, the GR Sport utilises a 1.8 litre VVT-i Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine producing 98 PS at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. This is mated to an E-CVT, an NiMH battery, an electric motor-generator and an additional traction motor, the latter producing 72 PS and 163 Nm for a combined total output of 122 PS. Top speed is rated at 170 km/h.

What’s the point anyways. Same anaemic hybrid power train beneath minimal aesthetic enhancements.
Maybe u didn’t appreciate that this car have better fuel consumption not only just good power, even this engine is ancient yet more reliable
must be nuts to buy this instead of emas hybrid, which is better spec cheaper and equally fuel saving.
Up to your opinion. Though both eMas and Corolla Cross are good, but toyota is still good in terms of quality and aftersales. Even corolla cross gr sport is good in practical and spec also good enough
u mean rebadged geely ex5?
forgot to mention emas7 hybrid is also a lot bigger than this puny croolla cross
Red seat belt, racing logo = 122hp sport SUV
That thing increase horsepower mehhh
0-100kmh in how many secs? Above 8s don’t bother call sport. Please lahhhh haiyaaaaa
why are you so smart to look into century sprint in this car segment? what a genius. haiya.
coz called sport?
Wo9w how o9ld is this model already?
Worth it
Toyota terbaik
If you like new inventions then this car is not for you I dislike the small interior with no storage space
Then this car is not suitable for you where many people driving this car have no issues especially long term so far
Owner here, been a year. Honestly, fuel consumption average 22km/L .. with RM60 (rm1.99 ron95) i can go about 610 – 660km (with tank size of 30+ L and calculated manually with odometer, and refuel when warning fuel left <5km).
Trunk size, im not sure the 441L or 487L (some AIs told me this), but i can fit 2 strollers, 1 big luggage and 1 small luggage and some ikeas bag on top).
I hate? Summary below:
1) Passenger seat doesnt have adjust button (manual only).
2) the compartment.. meh to me, i love to put my phone on my right hand door (between the open windows button there but unfortunately only the below compartment available), sometime my wife put her phone in the mid comp so i have no place except put at the wireless charger area with my keys as well.
3) legroom is fine but actually it can fit 4 adults and 1 small kid in the middle or slim adult.
4) Price wise, to me it is brand price not really bang for the buck but if you can afford it, go for it. For me, i like the design and yeah im old and doesnt like to drive THAT fast, a family guy of 4 (34 y/old).
5) It has the power to overtake car (easily jump from 100kmh to 140kmh within 2-3s) with power mode but dont expect like a racing car, since it is 1.8 engine with 122ps combined output and easy to reach the torque with lower rpm.. i been climbing Genting quite easy and hypermile the highway. Max 185kmh (cut off)
6) paint? Thin.. i bought dual tone, but easily polished for thin scratch.
7) cabin noise… hmm test drive yourself, for me, quite good but can be better AND battery recharging noise during slow drive is noisy, but when u drove more than 40-50kmh, u wont bother anyway.
8) signal and 360 camera available only if you drove 18kmh and below..
9) EV mode is automatic, BUT if u use manual one, max limit is 60kmh and how deep you press the pedal, if it detected that it will turn it off and back to normal.
10) TPWS.. i hate it, it shows warning when your tyre is on low pressure but never tells which one. They should give TPMS (EU model has it since 2021 version, blame UMW for this)
Overall.. nothing to impress and nothing to complaint
I like it. Maintenance so far cheap rm380 for 10k/20k km. App showed the price already and can start/stop engine.
