Previewed last December, the C28-generation Nissan Serena e-Power has been slated for a Malaysian-market launch in March this year, according to Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) executive VP Christopher Tan. Pricing for the C28 Serena is estimated to be between RM160,000 and RM180,000.In terms of customer response, ETCM has received 400 bookings for the C28 Serena so far, Tan said.
As denoted by its e-Power suffix, the most significant change in the latest Serena is its powertrain, which is a HR14DDe 1.4 litre naturally-aspirated inline-three petrol engine that produces 98 PS and 123 Nm. This functions exclusively as a generator for the 1.77 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the floor between the front seats.
The battery powers a single 163 PS/315 Nm drive motor for the front wheels. Claimed fuel consumption is 18.5 km per litre on the NEDC test cycle. While there are variants of the C28 Serena in Japan with the MR20DD 2.0 litre naturally aspirated petrol powertrain, ETCM aims to market the C28 with the 1.4 litre e-Power setup, and does not intend to revert to the 2.0L unit for Malaysia, Tan said.
So far, ETCM has revealed specifications for the Serena in sole Premium Highway Star trim, which features tri-beam LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, black Nappa leather upholstery, keyless entry and start with walk-away auto lock, six airbags and 16-inch wheels shod in tyres measuring 205/65R16.
This also gets a driving assistance suite as standard, which is comprised of forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assist and an around view monitor.
Also featured here is the Nissan ProPilot semi-autonomous driving suite, which brings adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist as well as blind spot intervention, the latter gently applies steering or brake assist when attempting to make a lane change while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.
Four exterior colours are offered for the C28-generation Serena, which are Diamond Black, Turquoise Blue, Brilliant White and Dark Metal Grey, the latter three being two-tone schemes with a black roof. This comes with a five-year, 100,000-km vehicle warranty as standard, while its e-Power components (motor, battery, energy management) are covered for eight years or 160,000 km.
This will go on sale in Malaysia from early-March this year, which pricing estimated to be between RM160k to RM180k, locally assembled (CKD) in Serendah from the outset. More details on the C28-generation Nissan Serena for Malaysia, here.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.

The state of this car. Looks, feels and has actual parts from 2005 and they’re asking for RM160k for it? Aiyaiyai
to be fair, its still the cheeapest sliding door 7 seat MPV . and cheaper than competitor hundai staria, toyota innova
Better if bigger battery like inside the Kicks, so less engine kick-in while doing highway. Hope Nissan not bankrupt before warranty of their cars end
for the lack of modern features, it should be price between RM130k to RM150k at most.
No paddle shifters, no electric seats, no 3-zone climate, 3rd row seats don’t fold under the floor, no power tailgate, no ambient lighting, no sunroof or panoramic roof, no remote engine start, tiny 16″ wheels, no self parking….. this C28 is bare-bones. Nissan already going to go bankrupt and still can offer sub-par features.
16″ wheel is good for pocket…if 19″, min. price is rm700/pc
With their shoddy reliability, might as well just get a recond Alphard/StepWGN and many others….what a dated product…
not everyone wants to own a hand-me-down vehicle.
“ETCM has received 400 bookings for the C28 Serena so far”. Malaysians will really buy anything…mind you this car made its debut in…Nov 2022. so it’s almost 4 years late lmao.
lol…that’s what the claimed for the nissan kicks…but one can hardly even spot one on the road…it’s even rarer than spotting a ferrari or maserati or rolls royce!
such a rare car to be seen on the road…sure “higher” class than rolls royce
lets not forget the current gen MYVI is from 2017 and yet malaysians also still buying it.
d 2017 myvi is a 3rd hand car… this is brand new
4 years late so what , for 180k many malaysians will happily spend that same sum of money to buy a recond unregistered alphard/vellfire manufactured in 2022.
At this price, another failure for TC.
Especially since the Yen Is now so low
frankly speaking, the c28 attract me bcoz of the epower and 8seater configuration eventhough the looks feel boring and dated. No bodykit, small tyre. But now they dont bring in 8 seater, and wanna sell more than 150k? Sry not interested .
At this price, it wont be flying off the shelf.
Are the people in TanChong so ignorant of the market? Or they just get caught in those high level paper budgeting that were forced to present a positive number?
Reality is that this segment of people mover is dominated by recon Alphard/Vellfire. That’s the competition. While we can argue that “this is a new car” (but really? Is also a dated model), choices are clear for most of the consumers.
