The Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) will close the KM9.5 U-turn in both directions on a trial basis for a period of six months from today, January 5, and the closure is aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing the comfort and safety of expressway users, the the highway operator has announced.
Increased traffic volume and congestion in the morning and evening peak hours has resulted from rapid development in the Besraya corridor, including Sungai Besi, Kampung Malaysia, Kuchai Lama, Salak Selatan, Bandar Tasik Permaisuri and Taman Salak Jaya, it stated.
“Traffic weaving at the KM9.5 U-turn has also disrupted the main carriageway and contributed to congestion in the surrounding area,” the company was quoted as saying. During the period of the U-turn closure, motorists from the south are advised to use the U-turn at KM8.6, while motorists from the north are advised to use the U-turn at KM10.5.
