2026 Nissan Rogue Plug-in Hybrid debuts in the US – X-Trail PHEV is a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

The Nissan Rogue (we know it as the X-Trail) will soon be offered with plug-in hybrid power in the United States early next year. Revealed ahead of its public debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, the new Rogue Plug-in Hybrid marks the brand’s first PHEV offering in the US, although it isn’t a “true Nissan.”

Look closely and you’ll notice the Rogue Plug-in Hybrid is essentially a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV with a lightly revised exterior. This isn’t surprising given both companies are part an alliance together with Renault – the Rogue and Outlander are built on the same Renault–Nissan CMF-CD platform.

Also shared is the powertrain, which is based around a 2.4 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine that works together with two electric motors and a 20-kWh battery. Together, the electric all-wheel drive system provides 248 hp and 437 Nm of torque.

The Rogue PHEV offers up to 61 km (38 miles) of range when running on pure electricity, while the EPA-estimated total driving range in hybrid mode is up to 676 km (420 miles). Only AC charging is available, which can fully recharge the battery in 7.5 hours when plugged into a Level 2 home charger.

Drivers can cycle through seven drive modes to manage power delivery and AWD torque distribution, including Normal, Power, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud. There are also EV, Save and Charge modes to manage energy, along with two levels of regenerative braking.

Two grades, SL and Premium, will be offered to US customers, with available equipment being a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 10-inch head-up display, a nine-speaker Bose sound system, 11 airbags, Nissan Safety Shield 360 (AEB, auto high beam, lane departure warning, etc.), ProPilot Assist 1.1, 20-inch wheels as well as all-LED exterior lighting.

Nissan has legandary GTR and Z, ICE and EV, and Mitsubishi.

Proton as a car manufacturer still rely on rebadge. Just try compare apple to apple on parts from Proton Geely SUV with Proton Sedan. Clearly see how Proton sedan parts slowly being replaced by Geely.
