BMW Group Malaysia has joined hands with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) to bring Malaysia’s EV technical and vocational education to the next level through the BMW Next Generation Technician (BMW NextGT) programme.
STDC’s automotive technical trainers will undergo hands-on training under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework, with specialised modules including current modern automotive technologies and concepts.
They will then pass the knowledge on to qualified vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, which builds upon the BMW Technical Training Programme and BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification programme in Malaysia.
The BMW NextGT programme is scheduled to roll out in 2026, starting with a collaboration involving Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt and Quill Automobiles as initial dealer partners. The initiative is planned to be extended to more BMW dealers from 2027 onwards.
“Today the automotive industry is undergoing its most transformative era, and with it comes the need for a workforce that can drive this innovation forward. Our collaboration with STDC through the BMW NextGT programme is built on the foundation of belief that investing in education and technical development is key to shaping the future of mobility in Malaysia.
“By empowering trainers and students with the skills and knowledge aligned with BMW’s global standards, we are cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards the future of the automotive industry here,” said BMW Group Malaysia MD Benjamin Nagel.
“We are honoured by the trust and confidence that BMW Group Malaysia has placed in the Selangor state government through this collaboration with the STDC. The BMW NextGT programme reflects Selangor’s commitment to cultivate the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards sustainable, future mobility.
“We sincerely appreciate BMW Group Malaysia’s confidence in nurturing local talent. This initiative demonstrates the power of partnership between government and industry in advancing technical and vocational excellence, while empowering our youth with world-class skills and knowledge to position Selangor as a leading hub for advanced automotive technology and sustainable innovation in the region,” said Selangor chief minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
