JPJ offering 50% discount on outstanding summonses from Nov 1 to Dec 30; no discounts from Jan 1, 2026

The road transport department (JPJ) is offering motorists a 50% discount to settle outstanding summonses issued by the department over a two-month period, from November 1 to December 30, reported Bernama.

The 50% discount will apply to all summonses issued by the JPJ, except summonses which are not eligible for compounding, said JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, who advised members of the public to settle payments for the summonses at JPJ counters or through the available online payment channels.

“The discount applies to all types of summonses except for AWAS (Automated Awareness Safety System) summonses, Investigation Notices (114), and Stamped Summonses/JPJ (P)23 Notices (115), which have been in effect since early last year,” Aedy Fadly said.

The discount does not cover summonses that cannot be compounded, such as those that must be brought to court, and no discounts will be offered for summonses issued by the JPJ and the police after January 1, he added.

Earlier this month, transport minister Anthony Loke announced a new saman structure that give better rates for earlier settlement of summonses.

From January 1, 2026, compounds paid within one to 15 days will be entitled to a 50% reduction, while a 33% reduction awaits those who pay between 16–30 days. Summonses paid within 31-60 days will have the full compound rate with no discounts applied, and court action/blacklisting applies for unpaid saman 61 days and above.

There will no longer be discounts on summonses for traffic offences from next year onwards, “because discounts based on programmes are unfair to those who are responsible and pay their summonses early,” the transport minister said in parliament earlier this month.
