Juru-Sungai Dua traffic dispersal project on North-South Highway starts today – new roundabout, bridge

North-South Expressway (NSE) concessionaire PLUS Malaysia has announced the start of Package 1 of the traffic dispersal project between the Juru and Sungai Dua toll plazas (PTJSD) in Penang today, October 21.

The said package, awarded to Naza Engineering and Construction, will include the upgrade of the roundabout at the East-West Interchange (kilometre 135.15 to 135.4) leading to the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) as well as the construction of a new bridge onto the nearby Jalan Tun Hussein Onn (kilometre 133.5 to 134.5). The project is expected to take two years to complete.

According to PLUS, Package 1 will not disrupt traffic flow in the preliminary stage as the two NSE lanes in both directions will remain open; the company said it will provide continual updates on the project’s progress through social media. The greater traffic dispersal project aims to alleviate the infamous massive jams along the stretch and is set to benefit around 200,000 daily users, it added.

This project is just the start of the Juru-Sungai Dua elevated highway aimed at reducing congestion there. Spanning a total of 17.4 km, it will involve a total of eight construction phases, including a nine-kilometre elevated section and several traffic light-less intersections and elevated U-turns.

The picture you used for your article is misleading. The picture is of Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Penang Island.

We are very much aware; however, we are short on photos of the Juru-Sungai Dua stretch on file. Hope you understand. :)
