2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer – becomes a compact SUV

Chevrolet has unveiled the new Trailblazer, with the name now appended to a more compact SUV which is positioned between the Trax (seen in Malaysia, though before Chevrolet pulled the plug on the Malaysian market) and the Equinox in the company’s model line-up. Little is known about the Trailblazer’s major equipment at this point, though Chevrolet has listed the SUV’s standard-fit active safety features.

These include Front Pedestrian Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, in addition to adaptive cruise control, rear park assist and a high-definition rear view camera. Specifications and pricing for the new Trailblazer will be revealed later, says Chevrolet, with arrivals in dealers set for early next year.

Meanwhile, clues to the Trailblazer’s possible powertrains can be found in the Equinox, which offers a 137 hp/325 Nm 1.6 litre turbodiesel, a 170 hp/275 Nm 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder and a 252 hp/353 Nm 2.0 litre turbo four. The Trailblazer could also employ the 138 hp/200 Nm 1.4 litre turbo four petrol mill from the Trax in a more entry-level variant.

This is smaller than the somewhat similarly-named Chevrolet Blazer, which competes with the likes of the Ford Edge and Jeep Grand Cherokee, where powertrain is a choice of two options – a 2.5 litre Ecotec petrol four with 193 hp and 255 Nm of torque, alongside a 3.6 litre petrol V6 producing 305 hp and 365 Nm of torque. The Blazer will soon have a three-row version as well.
