Skoda Kamiq SUV confirmed for European line-up

Skoda Kamiq SUV confirmed for European line-up

Skoda has confirmed the Kamiq SUV for entry into the European market, following the B-segment crossover’s debut in China. The Kamiq’s positioning places it squarely up against the likes of the Honda HR-V and Toyota C-HR and Nissan Kicks, as well as European contenders such as the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and Citroën C3 Aircross.

The Beijing debutant entered the China market with a 1.5 litre petrol engine which produces 109 hp and 150 Nm of torque, sent to the driven wheels via an automatic transmission. Interior equipment for the Chinese-market Kamiq is targeted at young, urban customers, where smartphone integration comes courtesy of Apple CarPlay, Baidu Carlife and MirrorLink, plus infotainment voice control by iFLYTEK.

Called by the company a ‘city SUV’, the Skoda Kamiq measures 4,390 mm long, 1,781 mm wide and 1,593 mm tall, with a 2,610 mm wheelbase. Compared to its Chinese twin, the Kamiq for the European market is set for slightly different styling and is likely to retain hints of the Vision X concept, particularly around the front and rear ends.

The European-market Kamiq can be expected to feature the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder and 1.5 TSI four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines from within the Volkswagen group, which are already in service with its German and Spanish counterparts such as the Seat Arona and the Volkswagen T-Cross.
