Mitsubishi Delica D:5 gets all rugged for 2019 TAS

The Mitsubishi Delica D:5, which made its debut in Japan last month, is heading to the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon in kitted up form. The show car is based on the Urban Gear variant that was announced at the point of introduction.

Here, add-on equipment is led by blackened front/rear bumpers and lower side panels. A heavy-duty roof carrier has also been strapped on, and this one comes equipped with LED lighting to provide additional front illumination. The TAS display prototype also features side/rear guard bars and red mudflaps to provide some eye-catching contrast. Rounding off the exterior styling enhancements are a rear spoiler, door visors and Delica lettering on the front bonnet.

The new Delica is powered by the automaker’s 2.2 litre DI-D turbodiesel, which offers 170 hp and 392 Nm of torque. The driveline offers three modes – 2WD, 4WD and Lock, and power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic.

No mention of interior tweaks, so there shouldn’t be any discenible changes to the cabin, which seats six in a three-row individual chair configuration. Interior equipment should be bumped up as a result of the Urban Gear trim level – available kit for the variant includes a powered tailgate, leather seats and electric front seat adjustment.
