Nissan Note e-Power Nismo S – sporty range extender

Nissan Note e-Power Nismo S – sporty range extender

The Nissan Note e-Power Nismo that was wheeled out in December 2016 had plenty of performance goodies, but no added performance from the range-extended electric vehicle. That has now been addressed by the Nissan Note e-Power Nismo S, which went on sale in Japan yesterday.

With custom tuning for its inverter and vehicle control module, increased electrical output and an improved reduction drive, Nissan was able to squeeze out 134 hp/320 Nm for the Nismo S.

That’s 25% more than the standard powertrain, which consists of a 109 PS/254 Nm electric motor and 79 PS/103 Nm 1.2 litre HR12DE three-cylinder engine. The ICE acts purely as a generator (it’s not connected to the wheels) and there’s no plug-in function.

Besides the extra power, the Nismo S gets special emblems at both ends and LED headlamps. All else is as per the Nismo, including the custom structural enhancements (front/rear cross bar and front/rear suspension member stay), unique suspension and beefed up front stabiliser.

The Nismo and Nismo S ride on Yokohama S.drive tyres and 16-inch wheels. Other goodies include a bigger exhaust pipe (85 mm), aluminium pedals and footrest (latter with Nismo logo), special EPS tuning and an aggressive front bumper. Inside, the sporty Note boasts a unique fine vision meter (with Nismo logo), special suede-covered sport seats (with Nismo logo and red stitching) and matching door trim.

Last week, a JDM Note e-Power was spotted on the NKVE wearing trade plates. It could be Edaran Tan Chong Motor testing the hybrid five-door hatch or just a random grey import with temporary plates.
