RM2,000 fine for lost barcode when exiting Thailand

RM2,000 fine for lost barcode when exiting Thailand

Thailand authorities have implemented a new ruling whereby Malaysians who misplace the barcodes on declaration forms for vehicles to be taken into Thailand stand to face a RM2,000 fine, Bernama reports.

“I understand that each vehicle to be taken to Thailand must be declared to the customs and immigration departments, including the number of passengers, which was previously not practised. A barcode would be posted on the declaration form.

“Drivers who lose the barcode will not be allowed to leave unless they pay a fine of RM2,000,” said Khaw Hock Kong, Titi Tinggi state assemblyman in the Padang Besar parliamentary constituency.

“I want to advise our people to observe the laws of that country so that they do not face any problem, including having their vehicles impounded,” he added.

In a related matter, the proposal to leave the Malaysia-Thailand border gateways open round-the-clock was not supported by majority of people in Padang Besar due to security concerns. Currently, the border gateway at Padang Besar is open daily from 6am to 10pm or 5am to 9pm (if you’re following Thailand’s local time).

Good move. Malaysians overstay in Thailand to work due to higher currency.

Gerard – you stated the border opens 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thailand time. But Thailand is 1 hour behind Malaysia, so how could it be until 11 p.m. I thot the border closes at 12 midnight Malaysia time? Anyway I could be wrong.
