Mitsubishi Attrage – the Mirage sedan launches in July

mitsubishi attrage

It looks like the timing wasn’t quite stated correctly – the Nikkei initially reported that the new Mitsubishi Mirage sedan was set to arrive at the end of fiscal 2013, which would make it sometime early next year, a rather far away point.

UPDATE: We’ve driven the Mitsubishi Attrage – click here to read the review

Well, MMC has just announced that the car will be launched into the Thai market in July, and the official name for the series production version of the car previewed in Bangkok as the Concept G4 in March has also been released.

The car will be known as the Mitsubishi Attrage. No idea how they came out with that one, really, though a search reveals that the filing date for the name was made on October 29 last year. Hafriz ventures that it might be an amalgamation of the words ‘attractive’ and ‘Mirage’, which probably wouldn’t be too far from the truth.

Anyway, the Attrage is pretty much the booted form of the Mirage, and so will have most of the hatch’s mechanicals and equipment. It shares the same 1.2 litre 3A92 three-cylinder MIVEC unit, which offers 78 PS at 6,000 rpm and 100 Nm at 4,000 rpm, with CVT or five-speed manual transmission choices.

The Attrage, which like its Mirage sibling qualifies for the Thai government’s Eco-car Project, will be produced at Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s Factory Three at the Laem Chabang plant located in Chonburi. No view of the rear as yet, but save the shiny chrome grill on the production model, the front doesn’t veer from Theophilus Chin’s rendering of the car.

Great!! a sedan but, with the same engine still able to hit the Thai GOV Eco-car Project with fC at least 20km/L.
So, Low Taxation, can maitain price below mirage price with same specs?
      come on.. RM55k 1.2L CVT 20km/L Attrage @ Malaysia.

@MMC, Mirage = low sales due to your lousy marketing. Learn from Thai Mitsu Marketing Team with sales of 10k monthly.

Mitsubishi was giving us old and outdated engines in the Proton for years. Do you still trust them? I for one will never buy Mitsubishi because for 20 years, they were giving us old, outdated and rejected engines.

it’s business bro. but inspira got new 4b series engine.

    • I’d think it wasn’t because Mitsubishi gave Proton outdated engines but it was Proton who still kept buying old engines from Mitsubishi. The 80’s carbureted 4G13 was still for sale in the Saga LMST well into 2007. I bet Mitsubishi was laughing hard then, in finding a fool of an automaker using their old tech engine.

Not mitsubishi’s fault at any level, proton wants the engines, mitsubishi obviously wouldn’t give us new engines, we don’t own them nor do they want to own proton. therefore they give us old outdated hardware because 1. cheaper for proton to build 2.easier to con the citizens laughoutloud. kidding on the 2nd one but you get the point.

God awful! Makes even the Saga (BLM and FL) look great. Mitsubishi has really lost it. When is the new Lancer coming? Its been what, 7 years?

with this kind of basic salary, high-rising house price and stupid import taxes, how can malaysians buy a ‘good-looking’ car?

proton & perodua? if the build quality is much better, it is a different story

so stop bashing on the design, please. not all malaysians are as rich as u.
