Nissan Bluebird Sylphy spotted in Malaysia

Nissan Bluebird Sylphy

Reader Chris sent in these photos of several Nissan Bluebird Sylphy units spotted in Segambut. The cars have their badges taped up and bear trade plates. ETCM must be doing local road tests, which could mean a launch is imminent.

This is just a theory – the fact that the car is using steel wheels could mean a local supplier for the car’s alloy wheels is not ready for production yet – leading to my suspicion that the car will be locally assembled.

A question many would ask would be where in the price range would Tan Chong price these Sentra-replacement Nissan Bluebirds, considering the Teana which is supposed to be a Cefiro replacement has been priced too far away from the average Camry/Accord/Cefiro buyer’s reach.

UPDATE: The Nissan Sylphy has been launched in Malaysia!

More shots after the jump.

If i not mistaken the bluebird is design for elegance, something like for working ladies executive level in Japan. Something like a Female Cefiro… The entry level should be 2.0L MR20DE or 1.5L HR15DE… This bluebird already in Japan since 2006… they have CVT or 4-speed auto, i think the most we will get is the 4-speed auto.

    http://www2.nissan.co.jp/SYLPHY/G11/0512/CONCEPT/main1.html

Anyway if i not mistaken this bluebird is to replace the sentra & cefiro at the same time, from what Mr.Ang told us during his launch of Latio in Butterworth. The bluebird will be launch next year in 2008. While the Fuga model which is higher level then the Teana will be in 2009.

i think this sylphy model will replace the very very old cerifo in malaysia next year since malaysia market do not take teana to replace cefiro (in Singapore, yes..Teana is replaced old cefiro model ). i saw this car in malaysia but was a singpore registered car. then is this model same class as Altis or civic?

Don’t worry “Bluebird Sylphy” is successor to what we known as Sentra in some market or Sunny in certain countries.

Basically a Sentra or C-segment, like Civic (even grow bigger) and Corolla Altis.

Bluebird model, what I can remembered the 1st generation Bluebird is at least 10 years ago! It is not a new model but absent from the market for quite some time.

hoho wrong timing man….it should have been this year at least….
next year new altis coming out, nissan gonna have a tough time selling it unless it really cheap, but i doubt it since this will not step into latio’s price range, which means 110-130k.

What is the price range for this car? btween Sentra/Latio and Teana. Should be RM 100K to RM 130K! Beyond RM 130K has to fight with Camry and Accord 2.0L. I think it shall be face-to-face with Lancer 2.0L.

Tan Chong is always slow in introducing new model. Nissan Sylphy is old model internationally with similar width as Vios or City – if sell same price as civic wondering who will buy (civic is more modern, good engine, larger width). I am just hoping Tan Chong will bring in Qashquei in 2008 where this model has launched in 2007 elsewhere. I highly doubt it will be introduced 5 years down the road. Too disappointed with them already that I will go for Toyota

This car is Nissan Slyphy in Singapore.
comes with 1.5 and 2.0 variants
i feel 2.0 is more appropriate as the chassis is designed for higher CC engine
both have luxury features like keyless entry and auto adjust seats
in singapore this is another intermediate model for latio and cefiro.
    price for 1.5 is S$ 79k and 2.0 is S$90k ( as guide)
currently there is a new ‘dynamic series 3’ launched in SG where full bodykit is inclusive. think this model is to compete with the new lancer launch in SG which is also comes with 1.5 and 2.0 variants.

Not that old dude. Check ya fact, this G11 launched late 2005, a year after Latio. If Nissan dare to price it around Civic 2.0l l guess many will shy away from it. Maybe 1.8 or 2.0 diesel or at least 1.5 dCi with higher torque than 200Nm will do for it.

Much taller car than the Vios. Don’t think the interior is any smaller than the vios. Vios have never had an interior that its owners appreciate as much as the owners of the City.

After reading this article, I kill my passion for this car :

Dec. 21–TOKYO — Nissan Motor Co. rolled out the new Bluebird Sylphy on Wednesday targeting mainly design-savvy, mature women who are often seen as having the final say in choosing new family cars.

Seeing the saturated domestic car market and the need to develop a new segment of customers, Nissan has developed the new midsize sedan with features that will appeal to women in their 40s — a curvy design, storage space and a rear compartment with ample legroom.

It is somewhat unusual for a sedan to target female consumers, but “the vehicle will be fun to drive for men as …

Tan Chong seems always to react to competitors, rather that make the first move. The Latio came long after the introduction of the Vios and the Honda City. The Camry and Accords have been launched and replaced and yet Nissan is still stuck with the Cefiro, and have the cheek to sell the Teanna at more than 200k (imported). The CRV is way ahead of the Xtrail, although at one time the Xtrail was the market leader. In the pick up category everyone else have an auto transmission version, but Tan Chong sells only the manual ones.
    TC, you’d better wake up!

This is a Nissan Bluebird Sylphy in Brunei. Popular among ladies here. It’s in the price range of Mazda 3(B$29k) and Nissan Latio(B$28k) ..around B$29,000 to $32,000 which depends on their specs and transmission.

At last TCM bring back the Bluebird back to Malaysia.

I remember my old first car Nissan Bluebird U11, very wide and good in handling. Engine also not bad….and the good thing the fuel comsumption is as same as Saga 1.5 when this car engine displacement is 1.8. Used to be hot with CA18DET&SR20DET conversion…and the good thing about this car it’s always come with multi-link rear suspension, not like sentra that changed from multi-link to torsion beam.

I believe this car could be competitor to Honda Civic, or even low range Accord, if not by the sale maybe to the boy-racer…hehe..

wth, why always malaysian need to pay high price for such car.
RM100k+ is too big for average income earner.
until when we can buy a sentra at 50k and camry at 90k
that should be the correct price not like now 100k and 160k respectively.

“whats the point of maing it so secretive, there’s biliions of it already in spore”

the keyword is singapore. this is malaysia. just because its an older model, its still new to malaysia, and like it or not, its business and marketing, and you wouldnt want your rivals to know what you’re bringing in before you launch it would you? unless of course you know the car doesnt compete with anything thats already in the market.

no point complaining about the high car prices. its a fact of life here. we can only that in future, car prices will come down. but by then, we’d be too busy complaining about toll and petrol prices than anything else i think.

Bluebird (without the Sylphy) has been a branding for Nissan/Datsun’s compact medium-sized sedans since the 1960s..

Bluebird Sylphy is probably a marketing strategy to cover a bigger range of segments in the market…

Have seen some Singaporean plates on the highway.. they certainly dont look bad.. but definitely will catch your attention bcos of the not so common shape.. :)
