GWM Tank 300 HEV open for booking in Malaysia – 2.0T, 9HAT, 346 PS/648 Nm, auto parking, app support

The GWM Tank 300 HEV (already in Thailand since 2023) is now open for booking in Malaysia, which means the ICE car, launched here in July 2024, is going to get a hybrid brother soon. This guy has a 2.0 litre turbo engine, an electric motor and a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission (ICE car has eight speeds). Total output? 346 PS and 648 Nm of torque, eclipsing our ICE car’s 220 PS/380 Nm.

Four-wheel drive plus front and rear locking diffs help you when the going gets tough, and there’s tank turn, crawl control mode with a 66% max climbing degree, a 700-mm max wading depth, all-terrain progress control with seven modes (the ICE car has nine). Departure, ramp and approach angles are respectively 34-, 23- and 33-degrees – same as the ICE car.

Also like the ICE car, the HEV should have auto air-con with rear vents, powered front seats with driver’s seat massage, faux Nappa leather upholstery, nine Infinity speakers, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a sunroof and 64-colour ambient lighting, but the HEV gains auto parking and app support.

The app can lock/unlock the doors, close the windows and sunroof, tell you that your fuel is low and/or your 12V battery is low, show tyre temperatures and pressures, show your vehicle location and turn on/off the air-con and/or seat ventilation.

The ICE car already has full ADAS, so of course this one has it too, including AEB and ACC, and there should also be six airbags. The HEV exclusively gets the Sand Beige body colour you see here (you can also have Crystal Black or Pearl White) and 17-inch black alloys with all-terrain tyres. The signature orange exterior colour and 18-inch two-tone alloys have now become ICE car-only items.

No estimated pricing yet, but as the ICE car already costs RM250k, this fellow won’t be cheap. But it can’t overtake the Tank 500 HEV‘s RM329k price tag, so there’s your range. Excited? Take a closer look at the GWM Tank 300 HEV at the ongoing Penang Autoshow 2026 below, inside and out.

  • GWM Tank 300 HEV launching in Malaysia soon – other upcoming models include B-SUV, luxury C-SUV

GWM Tank 300 HEV launching in Malaysia soon – other upcoming models include B-SUV, luxury C-SUV

GWM Malaysia has announced in a release that the GWM Tank 300 HEV will be launching in Malaysia soon, and throughout 2026 and 2027, upcoming models include two B-SUVs, two C-SUVs and “a future luxury C-SUV”. Now, GWM has one of the most extensive range of high-riders in the business, so it’s really difficult to play Sherlock here, but we’ll try.

Let’s look at the most immediate comer first. The Tank 300 HEV’s hybrid system involves a 2.0 litre turbo engine and a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission. Total output? 346 PS and 648 Nm of torque, which blows our ICE car’s 220 PS/380 Nm into the weeds. Four-wheel drive plus front and rear locking diffs help you when the going gets tough.

Next, we’ll look at the B-segment – the Jolion immediately comes to mind, but things have gone quiet on that front for a long while. A lot more likely is the Ora 5, which recently launched in Thailand, where it’s available in EV and HEV versions – dive deep via the respective links.

On to C. Given the success of the Haval H6 HEV in Malaysia, it would be very reasonable to deem the PHEV version as the logical next step. But more realistic would be the Haval Raptor (a.k.a. Menglong) – we saw this in a glass box at last year’s Gaikindo show in Hi4 PHEV form. It’s a mini H9, if you will, but it’s unibody where the H9 is body-on-frame. Think of it as a more ‘urban’ H9.

Then we have the “luxury C-SUV”. GWM’s Wey luxury brand has a model called the Wey 03, which used to be known as the Wey Coffee 02 in Europe and which was born as the Wey Latte in China. In its latest form, the Wey 03 is a PHEV that packs 442 PS/685 Nm, a 5.3-second 0-100 km/h time, a 136-km WLTP EV-only range, a 35.43 kWh battery, 50 kW DC and 11 kW AC charging.

The Wey 03 combines a 2.0 litre turbo engine with an electric motor at the front and another electric motor at the rear. All four wheels are driven through a nine-speed wet DCT. What are your thoughts, and are there any other possibilities within the GWM universe you can think of?

PACE 2025: Get a RM8k Thule adventure kit with the GWM Tank 300 – first showing of updated Wey 80 MPV

The paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE), which is co-sponsored by Carro and RHB Bank is going at full swing at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC). As usual, visitors can expect plenty of great deals on new and pre-owned premium vehicles at the event, which runs from 9am to 7pm today and tomorrow, July 19-20.

Among the participating brands this year is Great Wall Motor (GWM), which has its two off-road SUVs, the Tank 300 and Tank 500, and the upcoming Wey 80 luxury MPV on show at its booth.

Equipped with a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine offering 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 3,600 rpm, the Tank 300 is a solid off-road machine, but as the example on display at the event shows, there are plenty of customisation options to give it a more playful outlook.

Its robustness is aided by a lifetime warranty for its engine and transmission, so you’re well covered on that front. On top of that, you’ll get to enjoy five years of free service, ensuring further peace of mind ownership. At PACE 2025, Tank 300 buyers will receive a Thule adventure kit voucher worth RM8,000, so it’s a perfect place to bag the SUV and get extras while at it.

As for the Tank 500, the seven-seater takes a more luxe approach to things, but remains a thoroughly capable off-road machine, with electronically locking differentials and a mechanically locking centre differential, among other things, in its kitbag. The hybrid 4×4 pairs a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor with switchable four-wheel-drive to deliver a total of 346 PS and 648 Nm.

Very neatly, the drive components in its hybrid system are covered by a lifetime warranty, while the hybrid battery is covered by an eight-year or 200,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty, and the vehicle, by a six-year, unlimited-mileage warranty. Just like the Tank 300, a five-year free service package is also included.

The highlight at the GWM booth is the Wey 80 plug-in hybrid MPV, which has yet to be launched in Malaysia, but is now being previewed in updated form for the first time in the country. The show example, a seven-seat long-wheelbase unit, highlights the refreshed interior we can expect to get when the CKD version arrives on the scene later this year.

PACE 2025: Get a RM8k Thule adventure kit with the GWM Tank 300 – first showing of updated Wey 80 MPV

Indicators are that the Hi-4 plug-in powertrain that will equip the Malaysian-spec model will be similar to that seen at KLIMS, which is a 154 hp (156 PS) 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol mill paired with two electric motors, a 174 hp (177 PS, or 130 kW) unit at the front and an 181 hp (183 PS, or 135 kW) unit at the rear.

In addition to the attractive deals being offered by each of the brands, purchasing at PACE comes with added benefits. That’s because the first 200 new vehicle bookings will come with RM3,000 worth of vouchers from our supporting partners, which include Solar Gard, Dodomat, The Carage, Kuzig Glanz, Gintell and DK Schweizer.

Similarly, the first 40 new bike bookings will also receive RM3,000 worth of vouchers from the above-mentioned supporting partners. As has always been the case with our shows, the goodies don’t end there. Confirmed new car bookings will enter you into a lucky draw that can win you prizes, including ten smartphones worth RM3,500 each and a grand prize, consisting of a holiday package for two worth RM25,000.

  • GWM Tank 300 Hooke shown in Shanghai – hardcore off-roader with solid axles and possible V8 power

GWM Tank 300 Hooke shown in Shanghai – hardcore off-roader with solid axles and possible V8 power

Unveiled alongside the facelifted GWM Tank 300 at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2025 show is a new hardcore off-road version called the Tank 300 Hooke. The 4×4 gains some serious off-road hardware and is similar in theme to the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or Ford Bronco Raptor.

Named after the Hooke Trail in western China, the Tank 300 Hooke gets a beefier front bumper with built-in tow hooks, 18-inch beadlock alloy wheels wrapped in chunky Cooper Discover all-terrain tyres, rock sliders/side steps and a new rear bumper with a tow hitch attached.

Peek under the car and you’ll find a live front axle to join the one at the rear, as well as uprated suspension that almost certainly raises the Tank 300’s ground clearance, allied to a strengthened ladder frame. Expect the final version to also feature bash plates to protect sensitive components from any impact.

No details on what powers the Hooke just yet, but coincidentally GWM also unveiled its new in-house-developed 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8, built specifically for the Tank sub-brand. The mill bears some striking similarities to Mercedes-AMG’s V8, sharing the same nominal capacity and “hot V” turbo configuration; it also is claimed to offer IPX8 water resistance, meaning it will be able to be submerged.

The company did not specifically say the engine will be fitted to the Hooke, but it’s clear the car has been reengineered to accept a larger powertrain. Nowhere is this more evident than in the longer dash-to-axle ratio, subtly disguised by the Hooke-branded fender vents.

  • GWM Tank 300 facelift shown in Shanghai with revised interior and tech – 2.0T, diesel, PHEV, from RM120k

GWM Tank 300 facelift shown in Shanghai with revised interior and tech – 2.0T, diesel, PHEV, from RM120k

Ni hao! We’re live at Auto Shanghai 2025, and we’re kicking off our coverage with the facelifted GWM Tank 300. Launched in Malaysia last year, the body-on-frame 4×4 gets minor exterior updates concealing a significantly revised interior.

The only change on the outside concerns the front bumper first seen on the Hi4-T plug-in hybrid model last year, now with fake corner air intakes that push the fog lights further outboard. There’s also a new Dune Beige paint option.

It’s on the inside where the majority of the revisions are to be found. The centre console has been redesigned with a larger 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and the new Coffee OS 3. The centre air vents are also slimmer, ditching the previous Mercedes-Benz-style round units and analogue clock.

GWM Tank 300 facelift shown in Shanghai with revised interior and tech – 2.0T, diesel, PHEV, from RM120k

Meanwhile, the transmission tunnel houses two 50-watt Qi wireless chargers and revised powertrain, drive mode and off-road mode toggle switches. As is typical of Chinese cars these days, the current car’s large gearlever has been dispensed in favour of a column-mounted stalk, sitting behind a new two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel. A 12-speaker, 960-watt sound system replaces the previous nine-speaker setup.

The mechanicals remain unchanged, with engine options including a 220 PS/380 Nm 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder and a 184 PS/480 Nm 2.4 litre turbodiesel, both mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and a part-time four-wheel-drive system.

GWM Tank 300 facelift shown in Shanghai with revised interior and tech – 2.0T, diesel, PHEV, from RM120k

The Hi4-T pairs a 245 PS version of the 2.0 litre turbo petrol mill with a 163 PS/400 Nm electric motor for a total system output of 408 PS and 700 Nm of torque, getting the Tank 300 from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. A 37.1 kWh battery provides a pure electric range of 105 km on the WLTP cycle.

Prices in China start at 199,800 yuan (RM120,500) for the pure petrol model, rising up to 234,800 yuan (RM141,600) for the diesel and 249,800 yuan (RM150,600) for the Hi4-T variant.

  • GWM Tank 300 Diesel – SUV with 2.4L diesel engine launching in Thailand at BIMS 2025, 181 PS/480 Nm

GWM Tank 300 Diesel – SUV with 2.4L diesel engine launching in Thailand at BIMS 2025, 181 PS/480 Nm

GWM Thailand will be launching the Tank 300 Diesel at this month’s 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS). As its name suggests, this is a Tank 300 powered by a turbodiesel engine. Currently, the Tank 300 uses a 2.0-litre petrol turbo hybrid engine in Thailand. Malaysia gets a straightforward 2.0T.

The turbodiesel engine is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder, and the DOHC variable geometry turbo unit pushes out 181 PS and 480 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 2,500 rpm. Paired to a nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission, 0-100 km/h acceleration is 11 seconds and official average fuel consumption (as seen on the Thai ECO sticker) is 14 km/l.

The 2.4L diesel powertrain is available in rear-wheel-drive or with two active axles, and word is that there will be three variants for Thailand.

GWM Tank 300 Diesel – SUV with 2.4L diesel engine launching in Thailand at BIMS 2025, 181 PS/480 Nm

The new diesel has 100 Nm more than Malaysia’s 2.0T petrol engine

The Baoding-based carmaker says that it has tested this oil burner in extreme cold and hot conditions for 300 hours straight and at high speed for 500 hours. On 76 different road conditions around the world too, covering a total of six million km. Reliability is a must for diesel engines, and GWM plans to offer an engine warranty of one million km or eight years, according to Headlightmag.

The Tank 300 was launched in Malaysia in July 2024. Here, the proper off-roader (part-time four-wheel drive with 2H, 4H, 4L) is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-four petrol engine with 220 PS and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 3,600 rpm.

This means that while the new diesel model is slightly down on power (-39 PS), it has a 100 Nm advantage, which would be rather useful in a heavy off-roader. Also, the nine-speed auto has one extra ratio over our eight-speeder. Would the diesel be coming to Malaysia? Given a choice, would you have the petrol or a diesel engine for the Tank 300?

  • GWM Tank 300 deliveries reach 500 units in Malaysia

GWM Tank 300 deliveries reach 500 units in Malaysia

GWM Malaysia hit a new milestone recently with the delivery of the 500th unit of the Tank 300. This comes just over six months after the first 100 units of the off-road SUV to customers within a month of its launch in mid-July 2024.

The proud owner of the 500th Tank 300 in Malaysia is Ms. Wong, who said, “I first discovered the Tank 300 in China and was instantly captivated by its bold design and impressive capabilities. As soon as it launched in Malaysia, I knew I had to get one. What I love most about this SUV is its high ground clearance, making it perfect for my off-road adventures.”

GWM Tank 300 deliveries reach 500 units in Malaysia

“We are incredibly proud to see the GWM Tank 300 making such an impact in Malaysia, mirroring its success in China,” commented Cui Anqi, managing director of GWM Malaysia. “This achievement highlights the trust and enthusiasm Malaysians have for our brand. We look forward to building on this momentum with our upcoming Tank line-up,” he added.

This year, the Tank line-up will be expanded to include the Tank 500, which was previewed here last December. The Tank 500 is a larger vehicle compared to the Tank 300 and is expected to debut with a hybrid powertrain with 350 PS and 616 Nm of torque.

  • GWM Tank 300 – first 100 units of SUV delivered to Malaysian customers within first month of its launch

GWM Tank 300 – first 100 units of SUV delivered to Malaysian customers within first month of its launch

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has announced that it has delivered 100 units of the GWM Tank 300, doing so within a month of the model’s launch in mid-July. This comes after the company said at the start of this month that it had received more than 300 orders for the off-road SUV, which is fully-imported from China and is priced at RM250,000.

The 100th customer to receive his Tank 300 was professor Steven Leow, who said he fell in love with the SUV after his first experience with it in China. “As a car enthusiast, the Tank 300 caught my attention with its remarkable specifications and technology,” he said during the vehicle handover event.

“I never expected an off-road vehicle to compare in comfort level to a sedan car, and it was beyond my expectations. Not only that, the smart technologies such as the full ADAS, wireless charging and transparent chassis really fit into the modern lifestyle needs,” he added.

The Tank 300 is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine offering 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 3,600 rpm. Drive is delivered via an eight-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system, the latter coming with 2H, 4H, 4L modes as well as electronically-controlled front and rear differential locks.

Standard kit for the SUV include LED headlamps, 18-inch two-tone alloys (265/60 profile Michelin Primacy HT tyres), a pair of screens (12.3-inch meter and 12.3-inch touchscreen), automatic air-conditioning (with rear vents), powered front seats, faux Nappa leather upholstery, a nine-speaker Infinity sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a powered sunroof and 64-colour ambient lighting.

GWM Malaysia MD Cui An Qi said the company was delighted with the overwhelming response for the Tank 300 from Malaysian customers. “This achievement has significantly strengthened our customers’ confidence in our brand and reinforced their belief in our top-quality products,” he said.

  • GWM Tank 300 – over 300 orders for the RM250k SUV

GWM Tank 300 – over 300 orders for the RM250k SUV

When the GWM Tank 300 was launched last month with a RM250k on-the-road without insurance price tag, there were many who doubted that the company would sell many, if any, of the off-road SUV. Well, Great Wall Motor Malaysia has now announced that the Tank 300 has racked up over 300 bookings since its July 12 launch.

It’s pricier than most Chinese SUVs in town, but the Tank 300 is also different. This is a proper off-roader with part-time four-wheel drive, so you have 2H, 4H, 4L modes as well as electronically-controlled front and rear differential locks.

GWM has gone to great lengths to emphasise this difference (its own conventional SUV, the Haval H6, will be launched in Q3 2024), demonstrating the Tank 300’s off-road capabilities to the media and public at M4TREC Semenyih.

GWM Tank 300 – over 300 orders for the RM250k SUV

There, people also got to try the Tank’s tank turn function, which when activated, locks the rear inside wheel to allow the vehicle to pivot in tight spots. Relevant off-road numbers include a 33° approach and 34° departure angle, a 23.1° ramp angle, ground clearance of 224 mm and a water wading depth of up to 700 mm.

Only one variant of the Tank 300 is available here, and it’s powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-four petrol engine with 220 PS at 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 3,600 rpm. Drive is delivered to the axle(s) of your choice via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Kit highlights include LED headlamps, 18-inch two-tone alloys (265/60 profile Michelin Primacy HT tyres), a pair of screens (12.3-inch meter and 12.3-inch touchscreen), electronic parking brake, automatic air-con (with rear vents), powered front seats, faux Nappa leather, a nine-speaker Infinity sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a powered sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, wireless charging pad and steering paddle shifters.

GWM Tank 300 – over 300 orders for the RM250k SUV

Safety wise, you get six airbags and a full ADAS suite, plus front/rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360° surround view camera. There’s also a transparent chassis view displayed on the central screen, which is handy for sighting terrain hidden from view when off-road.

Once again, this CBU import from China is priced at RM250k and the warranty is a six-year unlimited mileage package. With over 300 names on the book, the early bird package of five-year free service, unlimited mileage lifetime engine and transmission warranty and Thule goodies would have expired.

Too expensive? Perhaps this week’s launch of the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door for RM200k will provide some context. The cool Suzy, now with two more doors, is also a CBU imported serious off-roader, but is much smaller and way less luxurious than the Tank 300. More here.

GWM Tank 300 off-road test drive experience – public can try out the SUV this July 20-21, M4TREC Semenyih

In conjunction with the recent launch of the GWM Tank 300 in Malaysia, Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia is organising an off-road test drive event this weekend for those interested in experiencing the SUV’s all-terrain capabilities.

The event, which will be held on July 20 and 21 at M4TREC, a 4WD training and experience centre in Semenyih, will provide the public with the opportunity to personally experience the Tank 300 over custom-designed obstacles and challenges.

Participants, who will receive training from expert instructors on how to tackle rugged terrain during their outdoor adventures, will be able to take the Tank 300 over the course, which includes challenges such as a log bridge, axle twister, ridge crossing and log track as well as hill descent and hill climb exercises.

“We want the public to experience the performance and capabilities of our GWM Tank 300 in a
variety of road conditions, with safety being our top priority. To ensure this, we have arranged for experienced instructors to guide participants as they confidently take on the off-road challenges,” said GWM Malaysia MD Mike Cui An Qi.

The fully-imported Tank 300, which is priced at RM250,000 (on-the-road without insurance), is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine offering 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 3,600 rpm. Drive is delivered via an eight-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system, the latter coming with 2H, 4H, 4L modes as well as electronically-controlled front and rear differential locks.

GWM Tank 300 launched in Malaysia – 220 PS/380 Nm, 2.0T off-road SUV; tank turn, full ADAS suite; RM250k

Right on cue, Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has introduced the GWM Tank 300 in the country, with the announcement of its price marking the vehicle’s official entry into the local market. The off-road SUV goes on sale here as a fully-imported CBU model, priced at RM250,000, on-the-road without insurance, with a standard six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty included.

As indicated when it was previewed in March, only one variant of the Tank 300 is available for our market, and this is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine offering 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 3,600 rpm.

Aside from an assortment of settings available for various terrain/surfaces, the Tank 300 also comes equipped with a Crawl Control function (which provides automatic control of power and brakes to keep the vehicle moving at a steady speed when off-road) and a tank turn function, which, when activated, locks the rear inside wheel to allow the vehicle to pivot in tight spots.

Performance figures for the 2,155 kg offering include a 175 km/h top speed, while relevant off-road numbers include a 33° approach and 34° departure angle, a 23.1° ramp angle, a ground clearance of 224 mm and a water wading depth of up to 700 mm.

Design-wise, the SUV, which measures in at 4,760 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,903 mm tall, with a 2,750 mm-long wheelbase, has the visual signature of classic 4×4 vehicles with its boxy design and chunky cladding.

Highlights include circular LED headlamps that each have a daytime running light strip running across them as well as a swing-out tailgate. It rides on 18-inch two-tone alloys, wrapped with 265/60 profile Michelin Primacy HT tyres.

Inside, you’ll find a dashboard that appears to be inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class with an upright profile, turbine-look air vents, a pair of screens (12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen) and integrated grab handles. Further down, the centre console houses a robust-looking gear selector along with controls for the four-wheel drive system, electronic parking brake and driver assistance systems.

Other features include automatic air-conditioning (with rear vents), powered front seats, faux Nappa leather upholstery, a nine-speaker Infinity sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a powered sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, double-layer acoustic glass for the windscreen/front windows, a wireless charging pad and paddle shifters.

As for safety and driving assistance equipment, the Tank 300 features a raft of kit. Besides front, side curtain and curtain airbags, the SUV is equipped with a full ADAS deck, with the list of available items on it including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic assist with brake intervention.

Also to be found are front/rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360° surround view camera, with another novelty coming in the form of a transparent chassis view displayed on the central screen, handy for sighting terrain hidden from view when navigating under off-road conditions.

Four exterior colours are available for the Tank 300 sold here, and these are the hero Dusk Orange shade on the example seen in these photos, Fossil Grey, Crystal Black and Pearl White.

As a gesture of appreciation, GWM is offering the first 300 customers who register a Tank 300 a five-year or 100,000 km free maintenance package (including labour and parts, applicable every 10,000 km or every six months, whichever comes first) as well as an unlimited mileage lifetime engine and transmission warranty, although the latter is only applicable to the original purchaser of the vehicle.

The first 300 registered customers will also receive a GWM x Thule Adventure Kit, which includes an RM8,000 Thule voucher and a Thule Paramount backpack worth RM999.

In conjunction with the launch of the SUV, customers who have completed their vehicle registration by August 12 will also be in the running to win an adventure trip to ChongQing and ChengDu, China, with 10 customers selected for this via a lucky draw contest.

GWM Tank 300 open for booking in Malaysia – RM250k est. price, deliveries of off-road SUV set to start in July

Great Wall Motor Malaysia has announced that the order books have opened for the Tank 300, with the off-road SUV expected to make its way into the local market very soon. Slated to be introduced in Q2, the company says that deliveries are due to begin in July following its official launch, which is now expected to be sometime next month.

As previously indicated during its preview in March and recent test drive in China, the Tank 300 will arrive here as a CBU fully-imported offering, and will be offered in its non-hybrid 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine form. Estimated pricing has also been firmed up, with the SUV anticipated to be priced in the region of RM250,000, slightly lower than the first indication of it offered earlier this month.

To recap, the mill will offer 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) and 380 Nm in the way of output, with drive delivered via an eight-speed automatic transmission and a dual-speed, electronically-controlled part-time four-wheel drive system. Technical highlights include an all-terrain control system with nine driving modes, a ramp angle of 23.1° and a maximum gradability of 70%, along with a maximum wading depth of 700 mm.

Inside, you’ll find a well-appointed interior, with novelties including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen – with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support – as well as Nappa leather upholstery. Standard fit items include a nine-speaker Infinity sound system, automatic air-conditioning and double-layer acoustic glass (for improved in-cabin NVH levels), among others.

Meanwhile, driver assistance kit on the ANCAP five-star rated SUV will include items such as adaptive cruise control, lane drparture warning and autonomous emergency braking as well as a 360-degree all-around view monitor with a Transparent Chassis Function.

The Tank 300 is of course on display at the ongoing Malaysia Autoshow 2024, shown at the event in its regular forms as well as the unit you see in these images, a specially-kitted version that dresses the SUV up with body-coloured flares and flashy accoutrements such as the OTT bonnet and cool-looking aluminium storage box mounted on the rear access panel of the vehicle.

However, don’t get too excited about all the glitz that’s on show or hoping that it will be offered here, because it won’t be, not through official channels at least. According to GWM Malaysia, the black display unit and its Chinese-market accessories was brought in to show potential customers what can be done in terms of customisation for the vehicle, should they wish to explore that path.

  • GWM Malaysia to showcase Tank 300 and Haval H6 Hybrid SUVs at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 next week

GWM Malaysia to showcase Tank 300 and Haval H6 Hybrid SUVs at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 next week

In a post on its Facebook page, Great Wall Motor Malaysia has indicated that it will be showcasing the GWM Tank 300 and the Haval H6 Hybrid at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, which takes place next week. Both vehicles have been previewed in the past, but this is the first time that they will be displayed to the public.

Initially slated to arrive here in Q3, the Tank 300’s Malaysian introduction has now been pushed up to Q2, which means that its market debut should be very soon, possibly even at the show itself. It is expected that we will be getting the non-hybrid 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine version of the boxy-looking off-road SUV.

Here, the powertrain offers 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) and 380 Nm in the way of output, and delivers drive via an eight-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system, the latter with 2H, 4H, 4L functions as well as front and rear differential locks. Earlier this month, GWM Malaysia offered an estimated pricing for the Tank 300, with the model expected to retail for around RM258,000.

As for the Haval H6 Hybrid, expect to see what should be the definite iteration for our market at the event. It was previewed here last year, but according to GWM Malaysia, the units shown then were not representative of the final version, with the actual kit and trim for Malaysia being that seen on RHD examples presented for viewing in China recently.

Specifications aren’t expected to differ much from that outlined during the 2023 preview, and so the H6 Hybrid will be powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine offering 150 PS (148 hp or 110 kW) and 230 Nm of torque, working in combination with an electric motor rated at 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) and 300 Nm to offer a total system output of 243 PS (240 hp or 179 kW) and 530 Nm, delivered to the wheels via the automaker’s two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

There has been no indicative pricing as yet for the H6 HEV, but there should be some clarity on this next week when it makes its first public showing. The H6 Hybrid was originally supposed to debut here in Q2 this year, but its introduction has now been pushed back to Q3. The SUV will go on sale here as a fully-imported (CBU) model initially, but CKD local assembly is set to follow at EP Manufacturing’s (EPMB) plant in Melaka.
