2022 BMW X3 Reviews Summary

Since its inception in 2003, the BMW X3 has grown to become one of the brand’s top sellers. And starting with its second generation (circa 2010), the luxury compact crossover has been built at BMW Spartanburg—the automaker’s only United States manufacturing facility. Incidentally, because Spartanburg is the global producer of every gas-powered BMW crossover besides the X1 and X2, the plant also boasts the highest production numbers of any BMW plant worldwide. One can speculate that the popular X3 has a lot to do with that.

Last redesigned for 2018, the X3 receives a rather hefty mid-cycle refresh for 2022. Although the xDrive30e plug-in hybrid has been dropped from the lineup, updates to the remaining models include design tweaks, new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Reviews Summary

Sometimes, only a full-size SUV will do. Among the handful of large luxury models available, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator stands apart with its classically elegant design, robust towing capacity, and soothing comfort in all three rows of seats.

For the 2022 Navigator, Lincoln makes numerous changes to update the SUV’s styling, comfort, technology, safety, and driving dynamics. To experience the changes first-hand, we headed to Scottsdale, Arizona following a cold snap of winter weather. In short, the facelift has revived the aging Navigator, keeping it competitive against newer rivals.

2022 Lincoln Navigator
8/10

The 2022 BMW X3 was available in four variants, with the sDrive30i being the only rear-wheel-drive model, while the others were all-wheel-drive. The exterior design was slightly revised to present a more aggressive stance, featuring a larger kidney grille and a black sensor bar for a unique look. The adaptive full LED headlights were slimmer, and the taillights were redesigned with a black surround and pincer claw-shaped brake light LEDs. The rear also saw larger exhaust tips and a new bumper, complemented by an M Sport Package for certain models, offering specialized aero wheels and new paint options. The interior of the X3 was clean and efficient, with dark oak wood trim, power-adjustable front Sport seats, and new perforated SensaTec synthetic leather upholstery. The cabin offered ambient lighting with 11 color combinations and a panoramic moonroof as standard on the M40i model.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator underwent subtle styling changes, including new headlights, taillights, and wheel designs, with a restyled front end. The grille design was reminiscent of an Audi, which some felt reduced the Navigator's elegance. Inside, the Navigator dazzled with quality materials and a mid-century modern design, featuring Lincoln’s Constellation instrumentation and infotainment display theme. The new Sync 4 infotainment system with a 13.2-inch touchscreen was a significant upgrade, offering a user-friendly interface. The Navigator continued in standard and long-wheelbase styles with various trim levels, starting at $78,405. The Black Label trim, evaluated in a new Central Park theme, featured a luxurious green interior with second-row captain’s chairs, and the total sticker price reached $106,530.

The 2022 BMW X3 featured an eight-speed automatic transmission across all models. The sDrive30i and xDrive30i were powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of 6 seconds. The fuel economy for the sDrive30i was 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined, while the xDrive30i offered 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The M40i variant boasted a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system, delivering 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. The M40i was EPA-rated at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. The mild-hybrid system provided a smoother start/stop operation but did not improve fuel economy.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator retained its twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, offering RWD or 4WD. The engine produced 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, with a towing capacity ranging from 8,100 to 8,700 pounds. The Navigator's adaptive-damping suspension was updated with Road Preview, enhancing ride quality by preparing the suspension for road imperfections. The SUV averaged 18.6 mpg during testing, slightly above the EPA's combined rating of 18 mpg for the 4WD model. The Navigator's performance was robust, effortlessly handling various driving conditions, including snow and mud, thanks to its 4WD system and 9.7 inches of ground clearance.

The 2022 BMW X3 offered seating for five, with a spacious interior for a compact crossover. The rear seats featured a 40/20/40-split, providing ample cargo space when folded. The SensaTec faux-leather seats were comfortable, with the option to upgrade to Vernasca leather for added softness. The redesigned center console and larger infotainment system improved ergonomics and accessibility. The X3's sport seats were supportive, with an extendable bottom seat cushion for taller drivers, although the extension handle could be intrusive for some.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator's interior was exceptionally comfortable, with 30-way power-adjustable front seats offering heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The second-row captain’s chairs were also heated, ventilated, and massaging, providing a luxurious experience. The third-row seat was spacious and supportive, benefiting from the Navigator's independent rear suspension design. The Navigator offered generous storage and cargo space, with the long-wheelbase version providing even more room. Cargo capacity ranged from 19.3 cubic feet behind the third row to 103.3 cubic feet with the second row folded.

A surround-view camera system became standard. ActiveGlide, Lincoln's semi-autonomous driving technology, allowed for hands-free driving on approved highways.
