The Proton Saga was the most registered car in Malaysia in January 2026, according to data from the road transport department (JPJ). With 10,285 units registered, the Saga managed to beat out the usual three Perodua suspects, namely the Bezza, Axia and Myvi.
On the mention of the trio, the Bezza settled for second place with 8,431 units, followed by the Axia in third with 6,581 units and the Myvi in fourth with 4,819 units. In a bit of a surprise, the eMas 5 makes a surprise appearance in fifth to become the first electric vehicle (EV) to be part of the top five with 3,068 units.
Perodua makes its presence felt again with the Alza in sixth with 3,012 units, but Proton does the same with its X50 that managed seventh (2,411 units) to beat out the Traz in eighth with 1,901 units. Completing the top ten is the S70 in ninth with 1,604 units, while the Toyota Hilux takes the last spot with 1,338 units.
After the top ten, we find the Honda City (sedan and hatchback are bundled together by the JPJ) in 11th with 1,231 units. This is followed by the Alphard – a popular recon car – that once again makes it to the list with 1,164 units, placing it in 12th narrowly ahead of the Vios in 13th with 1,134 units.
The collective effort of the Chery Tiggo series saw 1,054 units for 14th place, while the Ativa saw a significant drop to 1,012 units for the 15th spot – this time last year, the latter was sixth with 2,526 units. The aging Persona comes next in 16th with 939 units, while other cars that didn’t crack 1,000 units in January 2026 are the Toyota Corolla Cross in 17th (883 units), Honda HR-V in 18th (838 units), Mitsubishi Xpander in 19th (810 units) and Jaecoo J7 in 20th (779 units).
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.

just realize Bezza launched 10 year ago. and still selling only 20% less compared to all new Saga. what magic is this?
Non-car people willing to pay Bezza 1.3 AV 95PS with RM526.10/PS; they don’t know Saga 1.5 Premium 120 PS only cost RM416.58/PS.
because malaysians love old junk . even the T20 willing to pay few hundred k for second hand recond alphard vellfire.
majority are last year backlog orders from new e-hailing applicants.
no other car company in the world dare to do ah long business under the guise of batery rental service
At least proton don’t do side ah long business like Perutdua leasing
Hilux felt lonely at top 20. Where’s Triton, DMax, Navara Frontier?
peninsula diesel price is RM3. insane to buy diesel cars.
finally… great achievement P1.
Congrats Proton…u have finally dethroned the Jurassic stale moldy overpriced Bezza.
Seemingly there is no coming facelifts for the Bezza.
Perodua is caught napping, overtaken by a more powerful n cheaper competitor, plus a blockbuster failure launching of its EV.
Very soon Perodua Traz will out sold X50…..
After u test drive X50, u won’t consider under power, low spec and over priceTraz.
the cheaper car sold more, gee what a surprise.
Proton X50 1.5 TGDi Flagship RM113,300 177 PS RM640.11/PS
Perodua Traz 1.5 H (High) RM82,000 106 PS RM773.58/PS
They must be having kenduri at COE 3 hari 10 malam. Just like how they celebrating when they briefly overtook P2 because of part shortage.
Anyway no pity to Perodua too. Their complacency with Bezza without new model and their stupidity plus arrogance with their EV business model don’t deserve any sympathy.
Hi proton, emas5 ICE version with saga’s 1.5igt + aisin 4AT to takedown myvi please.
The Top 20 rankings reveal a market no longer satisfied with basic utility, but one increasingly prioritized by better technology, enhanced comfort, and superior power, aligning Malaysia with global economic and technological standards.
If Every month continues 20% less, u will see big gaps very soon. P2 might become next NOKIA if continues over confident and don’t wants to improve.
Bezza x variant rm45k if cannot upgrade to 1.5 engine pun at least gives a standard reverse camera as complimentary to customers lah.
