AMC’s newest British crime drama is replete with violence, slathering on the carnage like so much frosting on a cake, but its excess is intentional and its pacing exquisite. ... I love it. I cannot get enough of this show. ... Gangs of London isn’t for the squeamish, but its baroquely complex universe can be a thrilling one to visit.
Despite dragging City Hall into the fray, it’s still about as divorced from reality as a British crime series can get: a ridiculously action-focused maximalist melodrama. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Non stop action. Exciting with every twist and turn. Super bloody but just terrific adrenaline filled drama.

“Gangs of London” is a bold continuation of the mafia movie tradition, yet like the inexperienced figures at its center, the show carves its own enthralling path.
Spectacular, cartoonish ultraviolence becomes less of a selling point as the series goes on. Its replacement — a parable of toxic masculinity about men making the most savage possible choice to avoid appearing “soft’ in front of other men — becomes tedious. But it’s worth waiting out Gangs’ less distinguished bits to get to those Evans setpieces.
The high-octane series starts at a million miles per hour but flags towards the end of its eight episodes. Betrayals and double-crossings grow repetitive. Flashbacks become confusing. Characters are constantly ordering hits on one another and placing bounty on rivals’ heads. The ending is underwhelming.
The show does well to quickly build its own mythology, and there are interesting elements sprinkled throughout related to class, race and poor, Sixties immigrants raising well-educated sons. ... You just wish Gangs of London would settle on a consistent mood: either lean into the nonsense, or quit pretending you’re The Wire. As it stands, you probably wouldn’t want to join this particular gang.

None of it rings true. The cast is high-calibre – the aforementioned actors have done excellent work elsewhere, as have the likes of Mark Lewis Jones, Michelle Fairley and David Bradley, and Dirisu is good – but they’re lumbered with terrible dialogue.
From the sadistic opening sequence, it’s clear that this series will have its share of violent encounters. Considering that it was created by Gareth Evans, who’s best known for the brutally violent The Raid movies, this should be expected. However, there’s more than one cruel but inventive clash in each episode. It also has a compelling plot: After the head of the city’s main criminal organization is murdered, it sparks a manhunt for his killer, while creating conflicts with their rival partners. In good British fashion, there’s a labyrinth of relationships and secret alliances to add depth to the storytelling. It’s not for the squeamish, but the involving drama is complemented by an excellent cast. (9 one-hour episodes with a 2nd season already announced)

Just not very good. The characters aren't interesting which leads you to never really get invested in the story. Each episode feels slow and disjointed in film style. Speaking of film style, you can tell this was directed by the same director as The Raid. Scenes are unnecessarily shot in an action style when. Nothing's really going on. The fight choreography is in the vein of a John Wick film, but totally implausible. For being seasoned gangsters and cops, characters make incredibly stupid decisions that lead to these fights. They're also every cliche you could cram in to a drama. Overall, you could do worse than Gangs of London, but you could also do much better. Films like Layer Cake, The Gentleman, or The Sweeney would be more worth your time

The action Sequences are filmed beautifully but the overall plot, characters, and subplots are a bit all over the place, this show was absolutely frustrating to watch. If you are able to turn your brain off and just enjoy the mindless action then this may be a Hit for you! If you are a Critical thinker, then definitely stay FAR Away from this one

Got up to episode 5 because of all the good reviews. However in hindsight, all the good that is said about the show is that it has great fight scenes and/or is bloody. The story **** (the episodes are written by different people), the acting is stupid, the casting is awful. The characters are boring and non-realistic. What a chore to watch this show. Are the high reviews fake? I think so.
