With its imaginative machinations and gorgeously giddy action, Marvel Animation and Proximity Media deliver on the promise of the wider world of Wakanda.
Eyes Of Wakanda is a thought-provoking, entertaining glimpse past Wakanda’s curtain. And its four brisk episodes are the right lengths for what is largely an exercise in retroactive world-building.
Eyes Of Wakanda can definitely drag at times, but the lively action sequences, well-done animation, and the moral dilemmas faced by the stories’ antagonists make the anthology worth watching.
The first and last episodes are the strongest, while the middle two are less memorable. But even the weaker episodes are a pleasure to look at, thanks to their vibrant colors, luminous production design, and rich art direction.
Without a popular hero to lead with, Eyes Of Wakanda instead relies on the infinite potential of the Wakandan brand to great effect; the result is beautifully crafted but feels somewhat incomplete.
In an era where Marvel projects are routinely dinged for being too long, here’s one that’s not long enough — that’s over just as it feels like it’s finding its rhythm. That may not be the worst problem, but it does mean this debut season plays more like a prologue than the next great chapter of the MCU.
