Jaws is a gotdamn ice cold masterpiece. It deserves every bit of praise it gets. Pure cinematic magic. The shark is just the attraction. The characters are the reason this film swims… yeah, I’m going with that.

Spielberg balances terror on the water with a rich portrait of an island police chief (Roy Scheider) torn between public-safety concerns and a community that thrives on the tourist dollar.
The first is the best. When it comes to this kind of thriller, no movie has been able to top Jaws, although many have tried. And, as the years go by, it seems increasingly unlikely that anything will come close.
One of the most effective thrillers ever made.
If you think about Jaws for more than 45 seconds you will recognize it as nonsense, but it's the sort of nonsense that can be a good deal of fun, if you like to have the wits scared out of you at irregular intervals.
Steven Spielberg's mechanical thriller is guaranteed to make you scream on schedule (John Williams's score even has the audience reactions programmed into the melodies), particularly if your tolerance for weak motivation and other minor inconsistencies is high.
I’d heard a lot of praise about this movie, and I remember seeing a couple of scenes when I was a kid, but I never really remembered much. Now that I’ve finally watched the whole thing, I think all the praise is absolutely deserved.I was glued to the screen the entire time. The acting was phenomenal — most of the cast felt so real, like they weren’t even acting. The dialogue was great too, especially from that crazy sailor guy. He had some hilarious and intense lines that really stood out. There were even a few funny moments and some jump scares that actually made me flinch, which just made me enjoy it even **** direction still holds up really well especially for its time. It never drags or stretches things out for no reason, which I really appreciated.

The plot is drawn out, but the movie's still enjoyable. It's very impressive that they made something as plain as a great white shark the star of a 2-hour horror movie. Definitely not as interesting as most horror movies nowadays, but still worth a watch.

Jaws works, in the sense, that it's able to generate fear and constantly keep the audience at the edge of their seats. But once its done and you can relax, you realise there wasn't too much substance to it.

Truly one of the most overrated movies of all time. No real suspense, not scary, but a ton of blood. I have no idea why this film gets such high marks. It is truly Spielberg's worst film ever. 3/10
