Abiotic Factor stands out in the survival crafting genre by fusing humor, tension, and sci-fi absurdity into a deeply replayable experience. It’s clever, strange, and thoroughly satisfying, but not without its rough edges. Several mechanics are left entirely unexplained, and playing solo can feel overwhelming without companions to share the burden. Yet despite its flaws, it’s an experience that thrives on discovery, rewarding those who approach it with curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

If you fancy moonlighting as a budding scientist battling for survival against other-worldly forces and scientific experiments gone wrong, you’re going to love Abiotic Factor. It’s a refreshing and charming take on the survival genre, full of great mechanics and systems, an engaging story and world and importantly it’s an absolute blast to play with friends. Go in as blind as you can, because like with all scientific endeavours, the joy is in the discovery.
While not for everyone, Abiotic Factor is a fun, new addition to the survival games space. Drawing a lot of inspiration from the more science nature of Half-Life, is something that I think a lot of people will appreciate. There are some bugs here and I don’t appreciate the lackluster controller options, but if you are looking for something new in the survival genre, then Abiotic Factor might be for you. It is currently in early access with no firm date for 1.0 which means it can go through some changes but for now; its pretty fun to play. [Early Access Provisional Score = 70]
If you prioritize top-notch graphics for full immersion in the game world, you may want to explore other options. However, if you are drawn to the curated exploration experience of a game inspired by the original Half-Life, then Abiotic Factor is worth considering. Abiotic Factor is a fun multiplayer survival game with great potential. It wears its inspirations on its sleeves and harkens many familiar feelings (at least it did for me) while still being utterly unique. [Early Access Review]
IMO: the game try's to achieve too much. They should've fine-tuned their systems/mechanics more instead of having a survival type game that has every single possible thing they can think of such as even going to the bathroom. Lots of these things felt pretty shoddy. But what brings down the game even more to me is the low effort **** art style and animations. But even with how bad / low graphic everything is, the game is so poorly optimized I can only achieve 110fps on 5070ti which is crazy for how low quality everything looked. The map design on the other hand was somewhat good. The map interconnects with each other somewhat like Dark Souls games. But this could also be a detriment as it severely limits the replayability. They have a lot of different classes to start out as but it isnt a game I could see myself replaying unlike other survival games. The inventory system was pretty cr@ppy with no where to put your excessive amount of items due to low inventory space and no storage together with the high crafting costs. Lastly the game just kept randomly crashing the second time I tried this game which was on the xbox app kept experiencing a "fatal error" making me repeatedly reload the game every 10 minutes. The steam version was fine but maybe cause it was on a older abiotic factor update?
