Toedscool and Toedscruel, its evolution, have debuted in Pokémon Go!

Despite looking like regional variants of Tentacool and Tentacruel from Gen 1, Toedscool and Toedscruel are full Gen 9 Pokémon in their own right! Despite retaining the squidlike appearance, they're actually inspired by mushrooms so it's time to catch these odd creatures in Pokémon Go.

Below you'll learn how to get Toedscool in Pokémon Go, along with a look at shiny Toedscool and how to evolve Toedscool into Toedscruel.

How to get Toedscool in Pokémon Go

Toedscool made its first appearance in Pokémon Go during July 2025 as part of the Adventure Week event.

Here's how to catch Toedscool during this event:

  • In the wild - forests / grasslands biome

While catching Toedscool in the wild is the easiest way to obtain this Pokémon, there's a catch… It's only appearing more frequently in the forests and grasslands biomes. Rural players finally have an advantage over everyone else.

Thankfully, you can easily check whether you're currently catching Pokémon in either of these biomes by encountering an encounter. If there's trees and a grassy field in the background, then you're currently in either a forest or grasslands biome.

You can, of course, make things easier for yourself by visiting a local park or forest, but it's important to remember that biomes overlap quite frequently. Yet, considering your location, this might not be an option. If you play a lot of Pokémon Go, then you might naturally remember where these biomes are. If you don't, or have trouble remembering, then try testing out encounters near locations with lawns or green areas since this should be considered one of the biomes. You might also get lucky and have Toedscool appear as your daily spawn!

I recommend catching at least one Toedscool before Adventure Week ends. Like many of the new Pokémon released during weekly events, Toedscool's spawn rate for after this event ends remains a mystery. This means it could become very difficult to add this Pokémon to your Dex. Having at least one ensures you can evolve it into Toedscruel and, if you need additional candy, have it as your buddy.

When it comes to collecting this candy, remember to use Pinap Berries every time you attempt to catch Toedscool. This will double the amount of candy you'll earn! Once you've caught a Toedscool, you can have it as your buddy and collect candy passively as you explore the world. It's not worth spending Rare Candy on though. Even if Toedscruel is your favorite Pokémon.

Take a look at the Pokémon Go event and raid schedule for August! Adventure Week has returned and its brought Toedscool. There's a new Pokémon Go code for the Gigantamax Journey quest. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.

Is Toedscool shiny in Pokémon Go?

No, Toedscool is not shiny in Pokémon Go at the time of its release in July 2025. Due to this, you'll have to wait a little longer to add this shiny form to your collection.

When it is released, you'll find that shiny Toedscool is actually quite cool! All of Toedscool's colour has been swept away, leaving it a cool grey, almost white, shade. It looks like a little land-squid ghost! Shiny Toedscruel, meanwhile, brings the colour back, with a black head and brilliantly violet legs.
