2023 Acura RDX Reviews Summary

The Acura RDX may not be the newest luxury SUV, but it can still compete against newer rivals thanks to its strong performance, high levels of comfort, and relatively affordable price. We're no fans of its infotainment interface, but we think most shoppers will eventually get used to its idiosyncrasies.

2024 Genesis GV80 Reviews Summary

Genesis introduced the GV80 in 2021, and the crossover SUV is getting a minor refresh in 2025. Still, the 2024 GV80 remains a good choice unless you want to wait for the fancier styling, more high-tech interior, or new supercharged GV80 Coupe coming next year. Otherwise, today’s GV80 is pretty much the same as tomorrow’s GV80, and in some respects, it is the more elegant and traditional choice.

Verdict: Based on our evaluation of the 2024 Genesis GV80, seat comfort is not what it should be. Also, to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you need a USB cable. This Genesis is thirsty, too. But otherwise, we have few complaints about this stylish, safe, and mostly rewarding midsize luxury SUV.

Look and feel
2023 Acura RDX
6/10
2024 Genesis GV80
9/10

The 2023 Acura RDX was noted for its sharp, angular style, which, while unique, remained conventional enough to blend in with its class. The front featured the signature Acura grille, which, after years of evolution, seemed to be showing its age. Sleek wraparound headlights and deep creases in the bodywork gave the nose a sporty and aggressive look. The side was marked by a distinctive character line that suggested forward movement, even when stationary. The rear, however, was more conventional, resembling many other small SUVs.

Inside, the RDX took a different approach with a vertical dashboard layout, contrasting with the horizontal designs favored by many. The center stack flowed into the console, dominated by gear-selector buttons and a drive-mode dial, emphasizing performance. The 10.2-inch infotainment display sat atop the dash, with a digital center display flanked by analog gauges. While the interior wasn't as modern as some rivals, it offered a familiar feel for those averse to new glass cockpits, though it might disappoint those seeking the latest edgy design.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 offered a choice between the 2.5T and 3.5T models, with trim levels ranging from Standard to Prestige Signature. Our test vehicle, a 3.5T in Prestige Signature trim, featured a Matterhorn White Matte paint job, bringing its price to $84,600. The Prestige Signature models came in exclusive colors with dark chrome trim and stylish 22-inch wheels, though the design was less visible due to the black paint. The interior was luxurious, with Ultramarine Blue over Dune, diamond-stitched Nappa leather, and a host of premium features like ambient lighting and a 3D digital instrument cluster. Despite its luxury, the Prestige Signature's appeal was questioned, with a preference for the regular Prestige trim.

Performance
2023 Acura RDX

2024 Genesis GV80
8/10

The 2023 Acura RDX was powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. It was paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive as standard and Acura's "super-handling all-wheel drive" available. The RDX accelerated to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, offering immediate throttle response and a pleasing engine sound. The transmission was praised for its gear selection, and the brake pedal provided reassuring firmness. The RDX's handling inspired confidence, with well-managed body roll and abundant traction from the AWD system. It offered a sporty yet comfortable ride, smoothing over road imperfections with ease.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 2.5T featured a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, surpassing some rivals' V6 engines. Our 3.5T test vehicle had a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, producing 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain offered satisfying performance but was less fuel-efficient, with observed mileage of 17.2 mpg. Both engines paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The GV80 provided 8.1 inches of ground clearance and could tow up to 6,000 pounds. The 3.5T model included upgraded brakes and adaptive damping suspension, delivering a rewarding driving experience with swift acceleration and commendable grip from its all-season tires.

Form and function
2023 Acura RDX
7/10
2024 Genesis GV80
5/10

The 2023 Acura RDX offered ample space in the front seats, with additional power adjustments in top trims. The cushioning was generous, and the heated and ventilated seats provided quick comfort. The rear seats accommodated average-sized adults, though taller passengers might find headroom limited. The cabin felt open and airy, thanks to a large panoramic sunroof. Cargo space measured up to 31.1 cubic feet behind the rear seats, expanding to 79.8 cubic feet with the seats folded. The RDX featured various storage options, though the center stack's design was seen as space-consuming.

In 2024, the Genesis GV80 3.5T Advanced was the only model with a third-row seat, while the Prestige Signature held only four people due to its captain’s chairs. The interior featured a mix of artificial and premium leather, with standard heated front seats and a power hands-free liftgate. Our test vehicle included a panoramic roof, triple-zone climate control, and massage programs for the front seats. However, the seats were criticized for comfort, feeling like bubble wrap. Cargo space was commendable, with 34.9 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 84 cubic feet with seats folded. The Prestige Signature's rear console height required caution when loading items.

Technology

The 2023 Acura RDX's infotainment system used a touchpad controller, which was challenging to operate, especially while driving. The dashtop display was not a touchscreen, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto improved usability. The system featured sharp graphics and quick responses, with standard Wi-Fi hotspot and remote monitoring via the Acuralink app. The top A-Spec Advanced trim included a 16-speaker ELS audio system.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 offered a 12.3-inch digital instrument display in Prestige trims, with a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display standard across all models. The infotainment package included navigation, SiriusXM, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GV80 introduced a Wi-Fi hotspot in 2024, with wireless charging standard. The Prestige Signature added second-row wireless charging. The infotainment system was praised for its graphics and user interface, with a digital key system and a head-up display in higher trims.

Safety

2024 Genesis GV80
8/10

The 2023 Acura RDX received top safety ratings, with five stars from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS. Standard safety features included forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist. The Technology package added parking sensors, while the Advance package included a surround-view camera and head-up display. The systems generally worked well, though lane-keep assist was better suited for straight highways.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 came with numerous advanced safety features, including a Blind-Spot View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Highway Driving Assist. The latter worked well in light traffic but was less desirable in heavy traffic. The Blind-Spot View Monitor provided a video feed in the digital instrument panel, enhancing safety during lane changes. The GV80 received a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though frontal-impact ratings were four stars.
