Virus problems with Outlook Express...
A friend's dad has had a virus on his computer for awhile and he just "lived" with it. Well, whenever he tries to get into Outlook Express, the window would come up from McAfee that said it was infected with a virus and gave the options of "clean" "delete" or "close". Well, normally he would push "close, but this time, he accidentally pushed "delete" and then a window came on that said "this file has been successfully deleted." Now he can't open anything like Outlook Express or Microsoft Word. He can still get on-line and on the internet so that we can email me from his account(that's how I found out this problem), but he can't get into Outlook Express. The file is not in the recycle bin either. It sounds like they quarantined the file, but they should've clicked 'Clean'. I'm gonna be emailing them back tonight, and was wondering what you guys might do?
I'm gonna try to find out what virus it is, and what file it infected, but, until then, please post any idea of what to do.
Do you think I should tell them to just re-install IE and Outlook Express. I'm also going to make sure they update their defs file, and run a Trend online scan just to make sure they get the virus out.
Thanks!!

Sorry about the bump, just impatient I guess...
THanks for the reply though, and I'll try to get more info on the exact virus that he's dealing with.
I'm gonna have him install VNC, that way I can control his computer and see what's really wrong with it. (It's cheaper sonce he's about 400 miles away!)

UPDATE:
I had him run the trend online scanner, and it found 1400 infected files!!!
It's fixed and working now, and I found out they had McAfee. Told them to get NAV2002 and to get rid of McAfee, because I've had nothing but problems with McAfee. And I also told them to keep their virus files updated often. And a few other tips on how to reduce virus infection...
