Obviously ammuters with non CS backgrounds can't be expected to know Who-is-Who of CS history. Even if I knew him, how often people explicitly find out the author of the articl? On mobile screen?

I suppose you're right, but he's famous enough that a lot of people in the CS world recognise him by name, by initials, or by url.

If for nothing else that he now gets bragging rights over Linux

Of course it can go lower: he gets bragging rights for making the OS that the most widely deployed backdoor runs on - and judging from the linked article, it looks like he already started said bragging :-)

Not to mention that he retired three years ago.
