Andrea Gibson and the Fandom of Feeling

Today, we mourn the loss of Andrea Gibson, a spoken word poet, laureate of Colorado, LGBTQ+ advocate, and voice for mental health, who passed away at 49 on July 14, 2025. The world already feels quieter without them. Even if you don’t know Gibson’s name, if you’ve ever loved a character for being broken, soft, loud, or queer in ways that the world doesn’t accept, you’ve heard their voice.

  • 2 Fandom as Healing
  • 3 A Verse for the Vulnerable
  • 4 They Spoke, We Listened

At its core, poetry is fandom. It's about the lines that stick with you, the ones you keep returning to. Andrea Gibson isn’t just a poet you read; they are a poet you feel.

Fans often connect with stories like Andrea's, which explore trauma, healing, love, queerness, and…

Supporting Global Fandoms: Our Translation Pilot

Hi everyone,

We recently shared a Staff Blog post announcing a pilot program to test LLM-assisted translations on a small number of wikis, which has understandably caused a lot of confusion and concerns. The communication wasn’t as clear as we hoped, so we want to correct that.

First off, we believe in "enablement not replacement” with AI and in no way do we intend to replace editors with AI tools. We hope the tools and features we create for you are useful in helping you build out your pages and communities, and our goal is to expand the online communities you work so hard on. The idea is to make it easier for international editors to contribute to wikis in their own language, especially in cases where starting from zero can feel overwhelmin…

Internationalization Experiment Update

Hey everyone,

We have seen your feedback regarding our recent Internationalization project, which we announced on Monday. We are working on a larger post as soon as we can that covers:

  • What our plan is with this Pilot and our approach
  • SEO impacts
  • Wider visibility on our approach to Internationalization

We will provide more frequent updates about the project as we get to rolling out our small sample of wikis, which will be no more than five. We are also looking to share the data on this project once the pilot is rolled out, and be transparent about whether it achieves the goal we have in mind, which is expanding our international audiences and Editors on these wikis.

Until then, thank you for patience while we work on this and continue assessing …

Introducing Fandom’s Wiki Internationalization Experiment - A Gateway for Editors and Expanding the Fan Experience

Hey everyone!

At Fandom, we're always looking at ways that we can make the fan experience even better! As part of that, we're excited to share a new experiment focusing on international editors who are just starting out. We want them to feel the joy of contributing to their favorite fandoms without having to start from a blank page. Ultimately, we want to improve the accessibility of wikis for international users—creators and fans alike! To start, we are helping communities translate their wikis to German. This is done with AI-assisted translation, which we then evaluate for accuracy, and we could use your help in evaluating this approach! Dive into this blog where we’ll tell you  our goals for supporting new editors, how we’re creating thi…

Table Progress Tracking feature is now available for all wikis

Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to announce that the Table Progress Tracking feature is now available for all wikis! We've been testing this new utility with our communities for the past three weeks, and thanks to their invaluable collaboration, it's now ready for a full rollout.

This new feature allows you to track your personal progress directly within wiki tables. Whether you're completing actions in a video game, watching TV show episodes, or reading chapters of a book, this tool helps you keep tabs on what you've already done and plan your next steps. If you're browsing a table with useful information like collectibles, achievements, or missions, this is for you!

Until now, tables on wikis have mostly been static—useful for reference, but not …

Pride 2025

Pride this year comes during a time of deep, and global grief. It is important that we hold space for the heaviness many are carrying and be there for one another, more than ever.

The roots of Pride began as a movement for equality, justice and visibility led by those unafraid of challenging the status quo. In the spirit of Pride, it is important we carry this legacy into 2025.

Here we come together to share what we love, regardless of identity.

Take a moment to look into some of the history that made Pride into what it is today, and learn new ways to get involved. Through kindness and compassion, education and advocacy, we all have a role to play in uplifting one another.

  • Check out what’s happening in your local community. Showing up in perso…
