Proton has announced its sales numbers for March 2026, with the automaker saying it shifted a total of 15,706 vehicles across its ICE, EV and PHEV models last month. This represents a 15.4% increase over February (13,566 units) and is 12.8% better than that achieved in the corresponding month in 2025.
The national automaker said the numbers generated last month brought its total sales for Q1 to 49,140 units, equivalent to a year-to-date (YTD) growth of 40.1%. It said the total sales for the first quarter was a 22-year high point, its best since 2004.
Given the performance, the company indicated that its market share for March is expected to be 25.1%, while its YTD percentage of the market is forecast to be 27.4%, which is another high point for it since 2017.
In terms of model specific numbers, the Saga continues to lead the line for the carmaker. A total of 5,438 units were sold in March, bringing its Q1 volume to 21,770 units. Meanwhile, 3,265 units of the X50 facelift found its way to customers last month, and that sum brought the Q1 total to 7,571 units, an increase of 48% over sales from 2025.
As for the S70, 2,254 units of the MC1 were sold last month. That, the automaker says, was enough to give the sedan its best performing month since February 2024. And what about the refreshed X90 MC? Well, despite not benefitting from a full month of sales, 323 units were sold last month.
Some other numbers. With regards to its eMas models, 3,023 units were sold last month, the volume led by the eMas 5 with 2,071 units. This brings its first quarter numbers to 6,701 units, making it the country’s most popular EV model. The eMas 7 EV continues to plug away, with 306 units sold in March. Meanwhile, 646 units of the eMas 7 PHEV were sold in March, its first full month of sales.
“Proton’s Q1 sales performance is the result of the investments the company has put into its technology, dealer network and after sales service, which in turn has built customer confidence in our products and services,” said Proton Edar CEO Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa.
“Our ICE models are undergoing a sales resurgence across the board, but Proton remains mindful that we also need to consider the needs of car buyers if fuel prices increase. That is why our updated models are more fuel efficient and have lower maintenance, and through the eMas sub-brand, we offer buyers an easy path to EV and PHEV technology should they want to make the switch,” he added.
