UDPATE: It’s been confirmed that the Budi95 quota will be reduced to 200 litres from April.
We could be braced for a tightening of Budi95 subsidies as the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East continue to weigh heavily on oil prices. According to The Edge, the government is planning to cut the quota for subsidised RON95 petrol – priced at RM1.99 per litre – from the usual 300 litres to 200 litres.
Sources told the publication that the move could be announced as early as this week, with the adjusted quota set to take effect in April. Once this is depleted, users will have to pay for unsubsidised RON95 petrol, which is priced at RM3.87 per litre (up 60 sen) starting today.
The move should enable the government to extend Budi95 subsidies, as prices of crude oil continue to soar. Earlier this month, prime minister and finance minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia would be able to maintain the current price of RM1.99 per litre for up to two months.
He recently warned that the subsidy could cost the country RM24 billion if global crude remained at US$110 per barrel. The price of Brent crude, which hit US$120 per barrel just two weeks ago on March 9, has eased to US$98.24 per barrel at the time of writing – although that’s still much higher than just before the Iran war began on February 26, when it cost US$70.84 per barrel.
The reduction in quota isn’t likely to affect the vast majority of users, as it’s been previously reported that the average consumption of subsidised fuel was 83 litres of petrol per month, and 90% of those eligible for Budi95 used less than 200 litres per month.

this is a reasonable move by government, earlier the budi95 program already clearly show majority of ron95 users are utilizing ~50% of 300L subsidised fuel, so cutting 33% of the allocation does seem reasonable. good job Madani goverment!
Not good enough. Either they slowly do away with the subsidy or lower it to 100L/month. Anyone exceeding that has inefficient petrol guzzlers that need to feel the pain of wasting fuel.
dei idiot. some people are not lucky enough to stay nearby their workplace. dont be selfish.
Pakatan fake promises remains unfulfilled
What is not fake is your childish immaturity
Is the government going to cut e-hailing drivers quota also?
Just remove all subsidies
u should then submit your IC number to MoF & tell them not to subsidise your RON95 purchase anymore.
Subsidy is the right of all rakyat Malaysia but here PMX is selling our rights back to us in return for our personal data and our voting rights.
u mossad agent aka fake rakyat Malaysia are trying to destabilise the Malaysian govt by exploiting personal data & voting rights in relation to subsidies, but u fail again while Iranian missiles rain on your zionist fake country.
After cut quota to 200litre, next move is limit number of non commercial cars on the road. Perhaps focus on urban area with large public transport coverage. For example, limit only cars with odd numbers plate on Mon and wed. Even numbers on Tues and Thurs. Fri all can go.
Can only implement for vehicles going into urban centers such as Penang island, kl city and part of klang valley area, seremban in ns, Malacca city in melaka, .. since MOT knows how much they deploy rapid buses then can implement in that atea
rogue nation already eliminated six leaders of oil producing countries – sadam, gadafi, alasad, binladen, maduro, khomeini. malaysia is also oil producer so dsai should bend the knee to Maga and zion if he wants to remain pmx.
Well once it goes up don’t bring it down, this is your chance to end the subsidy drug addiction, do away with the subsidy. People need to curb their joyrides and needless wastage of fuel. Vehicles that are way old to be fit for the roads need to be totally written off, those are highest fuel consumers and there are a lot of those junk out on the roads. High fuel prices will force those low-lifes to finally get rid of those dastardly trash cans on wheels.
Kerajaan gagal
If majority of users doesn’t use the entire 300L of subsidised fuel, what does a cut from 300L to 200L changes. The cost of subsidy will likely be a bit less but not significant since majority doesn’t go above 200L anyways. Why not just keep at current 300L and let people have flexibility and somw buffer. Its not like they are reducing cash handouts from RM300 to RM200, where the cost will be significantly less.
2 weeks ago price hit $120 per barrel. At the time of writing, $98.24. But unsubsidised RON95 price increase? kata floating ikut harga market?
Pricing is not 1-to-1. Raw materials dictate the baseline but supply and demand also shapes the local prices. We would have reserves to hold the prices 2 weeks ago. But as prices continue to rise and fuel demands over the festive holidays rises the pressure on our supply also intensifies.
Msian Govt talking about subsidies rationalisation. However by looking at current scenarios of Diesel prices, Sabah & Sarawak highly subsidised. Even transport company regardless locastion received quota if eligible.
I believe the price should increase also if not the same as Peninsular Malaysia price. By looking at today’s price, diesel price in Sabah & Sarawak only half of Peninsular users. Even in Peninsular cost of living is higher, yet the diesel price more than RM5.00.
thumbs down – buy a ranger raptor petrol 3.0 twin turbo and pay RM 1.99 for budi95 petrol cheapest petrol in the world thanks to which gomen and which PM.
–
thumbs up – buy a diesel pickup truck and pay RM4.72 per liter because the greedy eastern S&S grabbed all malaysians subsidies.
Time to buy hybrid or promote hybrid tech. We have been key out of sync from the rest of the world because of protectionism, it’s time that stops and P1 and P2 is forced to advance their tech.
Good laa, no money don’t drive.
Prudent decision during desperate times. Everyone should do their part in prolonging availability of fuel for as long as possible for it to be subsidized at the current rate.
Some lackeys will surely not agreeing to the decision because of their selfishness in thinking they deserve gazzilion liters of subsidized fuel.
