Cameron Highlands epic jams no more? Brinchang road widening, Kea Farm one-way system by Feb 2028

Have you been stuck in the infamous Cameron Highlands holiday traffic jam before? I have, and it’s properly epic, especially from Brinchang heading towards Kea Farm. Let’s just say that walking is much faster. Is a solution on the way?

Here’s hoping, because a road upgrade project from two lanes to four in the Brinchang area, as well as a one-way road system in Kea Farm is expected to be completed by February 2028. The three kilometre project, under ‘Rolling Plan Kedua (RP2) Rancangan Malaysia Ke-12 (RMK12)’, is now physically 38% complete, says works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He added that the project’s main scope includes upgrading one kilometre of Federal Route FT59 from the McDonald’s roundabout in Brinchang to the Brinchang/Time Tunnel junction. A traffic impact study that was done by the works ministry in September 2020 led to the government also approving RP3 RMK12, which involves a Tanah Rata bypass road.

“The next phase of the project includes the upgrading of FT59 (Tanah Rata-Kea Farm) and FT434 (Jalan Griddle) with an estimated distance of 10 km. The acceptance letter (surat setuju terima) was issued to the contractor on February 11 with the date of site ownership (tarikh milik tapak) on February 16,” Alexander told the Dewan Negara today, reported by Bernama.

The minister also said that KKR is studying the suggestion of erecting digital signboards at strategic locations such as Simpang Pulai to state the estimated time needed to reach Cameron Highlands, to help motorists plan their journey. Sounds good – here’s hoping that it all goes to plan.

I think they need to stop granting new development there. No need for new commercial site or hotel etc.
They alreay have enough of everything there.
Once that place is over developed then it will lose its special status as a scenic and cool place to relax.
Building that 4 lane is good but please just stop developing that area.
I went up there on a yearly basis for about 10 years now and i must say the place is getting warmer by year and losing its touch as a place to wind down and relax. It has become like a shopping mall nearing festive season.

Of course, you’re too sick & too tired to remember that he is not in the works ministry which is responsible for the federal roads including those in Cameron Highlands.

  • too much huge development on Mar 09, 2026 at 11:28 am

Finally someone seeing the point on new development. I been having the thought for years, so much malls/high-rise project. With so many more accommodation added but road capacity is from decades ago. It simply won’t work.

All these approval on development without considering the traffic and air-quality factor. Bizarre
