Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has announced that the GWM Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV secured over 800 bookings within the first week of its launch, reflecting a growing confidence in hybrid mobility. The MPV, which is priced at RM269,800 (on-the-road, without insurance), made its Malaysian debut on January 29.
“We are encouraged by the strong response from Malaysian customers. For us, the bookings are more than a number, they show that customers understand what the Wey G9 stands for. This vehicle represents our vision of intelligent luxury mobility, combining advanced technology with real comfort. The early response tells us Malaysians are ready to move into a new era of New Energy mobility.” said GWM Malaysia’s MD Cui Anqi.
The Wey G9 is locally assembled at EP Manufacturing’s (EPMB) Pegoh, Melaka plant, reflecting the company’s commitment to Malaysia and its faith in the country’s manufacturing capabilities.
“This milestone reflects not only strong consumer demand, but also the capability of Malaysia’s local assembly ecosystem. By leveraging our skilled workforce and vendor network, we are proving that Malaysia can deliver global standards while building long-term value for the domestic industry,” said GWM Malaysia COO, Roslan Abdullah.
The seven-seat (2-2-3 layout) luxury people mover is powered by the latest iteration of the automaker’s Hi4 Intelligent Hybrid 4WD system, which is made up of a 150 PS (148 hp, or 110 kW) and 240 Nm 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is mated to a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) with an integrated 109 PS (107 hp, or 80 kW) and 170 Nm electric motor driving the front wheels, with another 184 PS (181 hp, or 135 kW) and 232 Nm motor at the rear.
Combined system output is 442 PS (436 hp, or 325 kW) and 642 Nm, which allows the Wey G9 to do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds on the way to a 190 km/h top speed. A 44.2 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery provides the MPV with 170 km of NEDC-rated travel (or about 145 km WLTP) on pure electric power alone.
With a 58 litre fuel tank, claimed total range for the MPV is 1,000 km (NEDC), which equates to around 850 km WLTP. The battery can be juiced up from a 30% to 80% state of charge via DC charging at a maximum rate of 60 kW in 26 minutes, while AC charging at 6.6 kW gets the pack filled up from 15% to 100% in 6.5 hours.
The Wey G9 is equipped with intelligent LED headlamps with auto high beam, LED daytime running lights and fog lamps, LED tail lights/rear fog lamps as well as a dual sunroof and 18-inch 10-double spoke two-tone alloys.
Interior kit includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, centre row, six-way, zero-gravity captain chairs, 64-colour ambient lighting, a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, a 2,440 watt/21-speaker audio system, a hands-free powered tailgate, 11 USB ports across the cabin and a three-zone automatic air-conditioning system.

for same price 270k better buy three-year-old-junk, sorry i mean grade 4.5 star recond vellfire/alphard because japanese car have higher resale value
800 bookings in one week. Better than QV-E and Traz despite the high price. Tsk tsk tsk.. not patriotic enough to support our “national agenda” and give sales to our “international salesman”..
It’s a tough choice. I feel like a 23′ RM210k-230k Alphard will still do much better after 5 years in terms of depreciation.
You do get a lot more performance and equipment with the Wey though
obviously the 2nd hand old junk, sorry i mean grade 4.5 star recond alphard , will do better in terms of depreciation after another five years, because it has already taken the depreciation hit.
With power and prestige, this true chart-topping machine redefines the luxury MPV landscape. Boasting a staggering 442 PS and 642 Nm of torque—achieving a 5.7s sprint to 100 km/h—its performance is as premium as its gleam. The cabin serves as a mobile sanctuary, featuring a 2440W, 21-speaker system and versatile 3300W V2L capabilities that offer unparalleled freedom for every passenger’s needs.
As the segment evolves with notable entries like the Denza D9, the futuristic XPENG X9, and upcoming REEV variants, the G9 remains a masterclass in motion. It stands confidently alongside established icons like the Lexus LM500h and Mercedes-Benz Vito, delivering a sophisticated blend of tech, power, and comfort. With CKD (Completely Knocked Down) production in line, global export is set to begin soon, marking a new era for premium mobility.
