BYD Atto 3 Evo unveiled for Europe – switches to RWD, 800V, 74.8 kWh, up to 510 km WLTP; 449 PS AWD

There’s a new version of the BYD Atto 3 in Europe called the BYD Atto 3 Evo, based on the China-market facelift. The biggest change? It’s now rear-wheel drive (RWD), with a 313 PS/380 Nm rear motor (112 PS and 70 Nm more than the FWD one), although there’s also a two-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) variant with 449 PS and 560 Nm of torque.

The change to RWD has brought a new five-link suspension (previously four), unlocked 50 more litres of boot space (now 490 litres, expandable to 1,360 litres) and allowed the inclusion of a 101-litre frunk.

The battery has also grown from 60.48 kWh (420 km WLTP) to 74.8 kWh, yielding 510 km of WLTP range for the RWD and 470 km for the AWD. The 0-100 km/h times are 5.5 seconds for the RWD and a blistering 3.9 seconds for the AWD. That’s a lot faster than our FWD Atto 3 Ultra, which does it in 7.3 seconds.

The other big change is a switch from 400V to 800V. This boosts its max charging rate from 88 to 220 kW and cuts its 10-80% charging time from 40 minutes to just 25. There’s also 3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L).

Exterior wise, there are redesigned bumpers, a new tailgate spoiler with split brake lamps à la Haval H6 HEV, and new 18-inch alloys. Inside, you’ll still see the ‘guitar strings’, unique inside door handles and 15.6-inch rotatable touch-screen.

However, the gear selector has been moved to the steering column (so the wireless charger can now be positioned lengthways instead of sideways like before), there’s a new steering wheel and a rectangular 8.8-inch digital instrument panel (our pre-facelift car’s is trapezoidal-shaped), as per the facelift in China.

Not sure if we are getting this… HK only get the normal facelift version only.

But this will be very close to the sealion 7 in term of performance.

That spirited cabin keeps the energy high,
now the 3.9s AWD ready to fly.
A spacious compact SUV with ultimate drive,
Giving the 3.8s Zeekr X a run to stay alive.

If this comes here with the same pricing… that will be another price/spec war.

Japaness, Korean and European carmakers launched facelift model always cosmetic. But the BYD launched the Atto 3, although the skin and interior design almost looks alike but the voltage architecture, powertrain, drivetrain and battery size are all new. This time the Atto 3 is truly a new revolution. 800v, RWD or AWD and biggest battery size make this car great. If this Atto 3 launched in Malaysia with price at 120k it confirmed tapau Proton Emas 7.

People who don’t have must idea of battery size. With 2700mm wheelbase the common battery size of LFP is at 60kwh. Even the Tesla Model Y with almost 2900mm wheelbase the LFP size is 60kwh. But this new Atto 3 manage to squeeze 75kwh in LFP, 23% higher capacity and allow the Atto 3 get 510km WLTP compare to old model 420km. It is whopping 90km range more. This technology already surpass many European, Japanese and Korea EV who have to use NMC to achieve similar result (NMC only advise to charge 80% all time and higher risk of fire).

If Tesla adopt the BYD new LFP battery tech the Model Y rwd can get over 550km in LFP battery.
