Xpeng GX shown in first images – new flagship EV SUV with range extender, Range Rover-inspired design

Xpeng took to Weibo to post the first images of its new flagship crossover called the GX, which you should definitely not confuse with a Range Rover. Expected to make its public debut at this year’s Auto Beijing in April, the GX will take on other full-size SUVs sold in China such as the Li Auto L9, Aito M9, Zeekr 9X and Denza N9.

Viewed from the side, the GX bears a striking resemblance to the current-day Range Rover, although the Xpeng model sport design cues to avoid a “Spider-Man pointing meme.” For starters, the face of the GX appears to feature low-mounted lighting units, a full-width light bar and no traditional grille.

The front doors also lack the decorative garnish seen on the Range Rover, while the rear gets a horizontal light bar instead of downturned U-shaped signature. Judging by the photos, the GX looks to be around 5.2 metres long, as suggested by CarNewsChina. We’re not sure if those retractable door handles will make the cut considering China’s decision to ban hidden door handles starting from January next year.

Internally known by its codename G01, the GX will adopt Xpeng’s Kunpeng Super Electric System, which is a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) powertrain that is said to feature 5C charging technology and a hybrid range of over 1,000 km.

The Weibo post also reveals the GX to be an “AI-powered” six-seater. As with many Chinese cars, the country’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) will most likely publish specifications of the GX in due time.

Shameful. All the competitors listed has original designs (Li Auto L9, Aito M9, Zeekr 9X and Denza N9) and Xpeng decided to copy 90% of the RR. Stop it already

XPENG’s newest flagship, the GX, is a luxury six-seater SUV built on the advanced SEPA 3.0 platform. It features a “Starship-inspired” silhouette with a single, flowing body line that echoes the elegance of high-end icons.

“A silhouette so clean, it flows like a dream.
A Spectre-smooth ride, with SUV pride.
Long lines for the elite—luxury’s newest seat.”

Nothing wrong with the name XPeng. I love people that are proud and confedent with their heritage instead of using language cue of colonists country. Only weak race like Indians and Filipinos that thought they are great by speaking English. What a weak loser those races are. So weak that they are proud to be part of those who had colonized and robbed them poor. Full respect to Chines for not being a weak race

No, the rétracté le door handles will not be banned from January 1st, 2027, but since end of 2025 they need en be opetrable manually to open the door even when battery is off (no power at all in the vehicle), and door handles motorisations should be there only for decoration purpose, to help users, not constraining them in anyway, except to warranty totao security. Lot of dangers happened with retractable handles: they should not block or hurt hands when the motorisation is activated to retract them. The Xpeng G9 handles are the most perfect ones, others will be abue to use them with correct retribution to Xpeng Motors who invented this clever mechanism. Few others are correct, but no so helpful. Some are prettier, some are easier to use when not preopened as the Xpeng G9’s handues only smetimes are (30 seconds after opening the car with the key or the button inside the car on the driver’s door buttons panel… What is forbidden is the risk of problem, not the handles, not the type, not the design! The practicality needs to be warrantied to all! Users cannot die burnt ont their car because they choosed a bad brand with unsecure doors handles, which are pretendly automatic and appearing to be modern and luxuous, except in case of danger, when they did not work accordingly to prevent any damage! The MIIT does what Staff COM Laboratories PSC should be doing globally: standardizing what is secure, cheap, and useful, and spare anything wasteful or risky! Any zdea is good, but only the best (=== strict necessary benefitable to all alive beings) realisation possible may be done, and be improved by all! Nowadays all new vehicles have doors handles we found earlier only on very luxurious Rolls Royce, but there are still lot of disparities from one vehicle to another and not lot of human beings help Rolls Royce creating what will be the future of Automobile. Xpeng Motors is collaborating with Volkswagen Group (particularily Porsche, Volkswagen, Audi but mostly AUDI who is positinely dynamic and creative, Bentley, Lamborghini) and Nio, Huawei (HIMA), Changan, BYD (mostly Yangwang and Denza), CATL, CALB,…

As a reminder it is forbidden to forbide, but necessary to explain why and slare any risk (danger, wasting, damage, regret,…).
