Proton Saga MC3 confirmed to be rebadged as Geely model for the Philippines market – AMA01 to rival Vios

Proton Saga MC3 confirmed to be rebadged as Geely model for the Philippines market – AMA01 to rival Vios

Proton will soon be selling the Saga MC3 in the Philippines as a Geely, the carmaker confirmed at today’s official launch of the eMas 7 PHEV.

The move by Geely to rebadge the Proton Saga MC3 is due to the parent firm’s lack of models smaller, more compact and more affordable than the X and S series models currently on sale, Proton vehicle programme executive Desmond John Pinto explained in December.

Through a presentation slide shown by Autocar Philippines last month, the model labelled as AMA01 is positioned against the Mitsubishi Mirage and the Toyota Vios, and this has been said to go on sale in that LHD market as a Geely in the fourth quarter of this year.

Proton Saga MC3 confirmed to be rebadged as Geely model for the Philippines market – AMA01 to rival Vios

The Saga MC3 is underpinned by the Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA), and this platform will be the basis of future Proton models, currently codenamed AMA02, AMA05 and AMA06. This line of models will be a new generation of “affordable and practical global cars” to replace the PIES quartet that was the Persona, Iriz, Exora and previous Saga.

Retaining the existing basic structure, albeit on the aforementioned new AMA platform, the Saga brings new features including LED lighting, dual displays for instrumentation and infotainment and – on the Premium variant – driving assistance features such as AEB and blind spot monitoring.

The powerplant for the Saga MC3 is new, too, this being the 120 PS/150 Nm 1.5 litre BHE15-CFN Intelligent Green Technology engine. More about the Proton Saga MC3 in our review, compare specifications, and find out about its maintenance costs here.

Would be interesting to see whether Geely will change features of the car including bumper, grille, headlamp, wheel design and even body colours though probably coming from same factory. Previous Saga VVT was already converted as LHD specs so its pretty much ready to go for the Philliphines.

No way it can compete with vios when it comes to rear legroom. The engine maybe the same capacity but the refinement and power to the wheel is not on par with vios. Don’t get me started with the CVT in the saga (loud).

it shows how greedy toyota/umw cheats malaysians when the vios is priced double of saga.

      • More like pitting their lower segment cars against higher segment from other brands to confuse consumers.

        B-segment S70 vs others C-segment and now A-segment Saga vs others B-segment.

You think Philippines will allow Saga Tax Free like Malaysia? No way ..The Pricing in Philippines will be similar with Geely Saga and Vios. Maybe cheaper a bit Even if RM10K cheaper which car you will choose? A bigger Vios or a Tiny Geely Saga. Its a jo Brainier.

    • how about the loudness in Mitsubishi Mirage, Attrage, Axia and Bezza?

Maybe they are quieter than Nissan Almera

The Vios in the Philippines is ONLY offered with a 1.3L engine because they sell it alongside the latest Vios (Ativ in PH). The Saga is more than capable to go against the 1.3 Vios.

I just don’t understand why the rear bumper cannot make it lower ground clearance by another 3 to 5 inches? and also why the wheelarch gap cannot be smaller by another 2 inches?

The car suspension had been raised because the new 1.5 engine sits quite low in the chassis, potential of break each time going over speed bump.

so who did all the hard work to convert left hand drive? was it proton , geely, or phillipines?

The previous Saga VVT had already been converted to LHD and sold in countries like Chile and Egypt. That was 10 years ago. The changes for this model could only be the dashboard, wiper and headlamps.

I used to own a Mitsubishi Attrage. It is a wekl design car with a wheelbase longer than Saga and Bezza. Even though the Attrage is compact but surprised it is spacious inside. Like to see how it fare in Philippines Market.

The engine enough to push a b segment while the chassis still a segment. Spawn the engine into persona then enough to rival city or vios.
