Proton has announced it sold – as a group – 19,833 vehicles in the month of January 2026, which it says is its best single-month result since March 2011. The total also represents a 35.3% increase from December 2025 as well as a 100% year-on-year (YoY) increase from the 9,918 units delivered in January 2025. Keep in mind the overall figure includes Proton, smart and eMas vehicles, plus exports.
In terms of market share, Proton estimates it has hit 30.6%, the highest it has been since January 2012. For 2026, the company is targeting to sell 200,000 units, and with January’s numbers in the books, it is 9.9% of the way there.
As it has been for some time, the Saga is Proton’s best-seller with 10,285 units delivered in January. Looking at other models in the line-up, the X50 saw a YoY increase of 69.3% to hit 2,429 units, while the X70 achieved 672 units for a YoY increase of 16.5%.
Meanwhile, the S70 had its best month since May 2025 with 1,604 units (40.3% YoY increase), and the X90 managed 252 units (24.1% YoY increase). “Proton has had an excellent start to 2026 and our efforts to refresh the lineup with new ICE and EV offerings while communicating about the technologies in every model is starting to pay dividends,” said Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa, deputy CEO of Proton.
“There is a lot more to come as we seek to make further inroads into the market and expand our local production activities to ensure our customers get the best possible vehicles at an attractive price,” he added.
