MCE Holdings (MCE) has announced it will supply automotive electronics and mechatronic components for a new Proton model. The contracts with an approximate value of RM37.9 million were awarded to MCE’s subsidiaries, Multi-Code Electronics Industries and MCE Hengtuo, for an 84-month period.
In an official release, the company said production of said parts for Proton is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of the financial year ending July 31, 2027, which is between August and October of this year.
For secrecy reasons, we don’t get any details of the new Proton model in the release. However, the carmaker has confirmed that the next model built on the Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA), codenamed AMA02, will be launched in 2026. Other models, codenamed AMA05 and AMA06, were also confirmed by the carmaker as replacements for the PIES (Persona, Iriz, Exora and old Saga) models – the AMA01 is the latest Saga launched in November last year.
It has been speculated that the AMA02 might be a “Saga Cross,” with other possibilities being a MPV or hatchback. Going back to December 2025 when Proton showed its i-GT engine-equipped line-up of current and future models, there is a “Saga-class” SUV with a naturally-aspirated engine and four-speed automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, two SUVs (one being the eMas 7 PHEV) and a MPV will come with a hybrid system based around a naturally-aspirated engine and one of two versions of the brand’s direct hybrid transmission (DHT120 and DHT160). The AMA02 could be any one of these models, so we’ll have to wait and see what Proton cooks up.
“We would like to thank Proton for their continued trust and confidence in MCE. Being entrusted with this project reflects a partnership forged through decades of collaboration, and Proton’s confidence in our ability to meet demanding requirements as a long-term partner,” said Goh Kar Chun, group managing director at MCE Holdings.
