Singapore car fills up with RON97, leaves w/o paying

UPDATE: The driver reportedly forgot to pay and it was an honest mistake. Payment has been settled.

A Singaporean-plate Lexus SUV recently left a Skudai R&R petrol station without paying for 45 litres of RON 97 petrol worth over RM139, according to a China Press report.

A petrol station employee told the Mandarin-language daily that the driver had asked for a full tank and therefore payment was not collected upfront, while a woman alighted and went to buy some things from the store. Once the woman returned to the car, it immediately drove away.

“As the staff outside were busy at the time, it took a while before we realised they had left without paying. We tried to chase after the vehicle but failed. If the driver does not return to make payment, the bill will have to be borne by the petrol station and staff who assisted with the refuelling. On top of that, that staff may face a salary deduction too. We hope netizens can help remind the driver to return to the petrol station as soon as possible and pay the bill,” said the petrol station employee.

Of course, it could very well have been an honest mistake – perhaps the driver assumed his female companion would pay for the petrol while she was in the store – but should the pump have been unlocked without the collection of some sort of initial payment? By the way, it’s right that RON 97 was purchased here – as long as it’s a non-Malaysian vehicle, even if a Malaysian is driving it, RON 95 petrol (Budi95 or not) is totally out of bounds.
