Mitsubishi has updated the Triton in Japan, which is available in a sole GSR grade priced at 5,518,700 yen (about RM142k). This comes standard with a 2.4 litre turbodiesel inline-four engine making 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 470 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and Super Select 4WD-II system.
The big change announced by the Japanese automaker is the addition of Yamaha Motor’s Performance Damper to the front and rear structure of the pick-up truck – this is also found in Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
Mitsubishi says the Performance Damper is also used in its Triton AXCR rally car and helps to regulate chassis distortion and absorb and vibrations from the vehicle body while driving. This results in better ride comfort while also improving handling stability by reducing vertical movements when going over bumps and cutting down on the minute vibrations transmitted from the engine.
Other changes involve the front suspension and body mounts that have been optimised to reduce vibrations and improve responsiveness. Tailgate assist is now standard for the Triton sold in Japan, and there’s Panasonic’s Nanoe X technology to keep the air inside the vehicle clean. Lastly, the centre console and inner door handle garnish are now finished in dark titanium.
