A man was detained and 12,100 litres of diesel seized in Sungai Petani, Kedah, by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). Two raids in separate locations were conducted by ministry officers in conjunction with officers from Kedah police Special Branch, following public tip-offs and the ministry’s intelligence operations.
In the first raid, a lorry was found refuelling at a petrol station. Inspection of the lorry revealed diesel contained in two Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tanks, as reported by Bernama.
At a second location in Kampung Permatang Gedong, investigation showed an alleged collection and storage point for the diesel, said KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin. Authorities confiscated the diesel, worth RM34,364, as well as the lorry transporting the diesel, two IBC tanks and other related equipment, with an estimated total value of RM111,500.
Muhammad Nizam said the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and warned stern action will be taken against those who misuse the purchase and sale of controlled items. The public are urged to come forward to KPDN if they have any information on abuse of controlled or subsidised goods.

These cases goes to show that removal of diesel subsidy has been a absolute failure!
Not only that it didnt prevent it, but it has overall caused hardship to whole of Malaysia when sellers & distributors, logistics & transporters, increased their prices. Malaysia voters has to bear the increase cost of living from this failure policy of PH Gomen!
Since the goal is not met, PH must either reinstate the diesel subsidy and force all of them to reduce back the prices or else they all must resign for their failures!
actually this case shows, that even after removing diesel subsidy the price is still cheaper than neighbour countries. same goes for unsubsidized ron95 where the price of RM 2.54 is still a lot cheaper than thailand or indonesia.
and secondly sellers & distributors, logistics & transporters are still eligible for subsidized diesel as long as they apply and register for it. so where has there been any cost of living increase ?
in summary malaysia has one of the cheapest fuel price in entire world, and this is thanks to which govt and which PM ?
Not failure! There will always be attempt to divert diesel to for profits. It is illegal to not to have licence for bulk fuel storage. Licencing allows for feedback to ministry on the need in the field and how much we can subsidised. Our diesel is not fully subsidy free ya. Our fuel still marginally lower than neighbouring country. so it is up to us as user not to abuse it and not be part of the profiteering scheme.
Policy failure ? NO! … it is result of good intelligence and enforcement. Our government emphasis on enforcement (not just KPDN) is the right thing to do. truck overloading enforcement dont even need additional or new regulation. it is gaining results
Regulation and so call petroleum was not clear I can said the biggest lost nowadays for the government is not subsidy, is something the government forgetting to randome check and will be biggest scandal ever happened in the history of the oil and gas, and is happening now , so enforcement should more getting knowledge about chemical petroleum mixture , if still letting it happening some of the irresponsible and country betrayal will be very rich ……. But I believe the ministry soon will reveal about this scandal which bigger than the losses of subsidy.
“Crime has not been eradicated from existence, thus we should just allow everyone to do crime” – This guy ^
that makes no sense because firstly sellers & distributors, logistics & transporters are entitled to diesel subsidy , its just that they first need to apply and register, so where is the increase cost of living?
and secondly smuggling will always persists because our diesel and petrol price is much cheaper than neighbouring countries, and this is thanks to which PM and which gomen
As already reported to the Dewan Rakyat & in the media, there were 65 cases of diesel smuggling, involving 520,803 litres from 20/5/2024 to 9/6/2024 before the removal of diesel subsidy on 10/6/2024 in Peninsular Malaysia, whereas from 10/6/2024 to 30/6/2024, the number of diesel smuggling cases dropped to only 14, involving 68,457 litres of diesel. The number of individuals who were detained for diesel smuggling, also fell from 40 to 1 in that same time period. This means that the cases of diesel smuggling had decreased by 87%, based on cases in the 20 days before and the 20 days after the removal of diesel subsidy.
Later, it was also reported that 261 diesel smuggling cases were recorded as of 8/7/2025 since the beginning of year 2025. In comparison, there were 655 cases in 2024, and 992 cases in 2023, which does show an overall decline in diesel smuggling activities in Peninsular Malaysia since the diesel subsidy removal on 10/6/2024.
local criminals and foreign criminals smuggle diesel, is it fair to blame gomen
yes because reinstate the diesel subsidy and making diesel even cheaper, will auto-magically prevent smuggling, no wait it wont.
this is the whole reason why government implemented control over subsidy in petrol/diesel. well done! good job!
