Top 20 EVs in 2025 – eMas 7 sales nearly 2x of second placed Sealion 7, Model 3 top sedan, Denza top MPV

You’ve seen the overall top 20 brands, models and EV brands of 2025 – now here’s Malaysia’s top 20 fully electric models in 2025. No surprises at who’s at No.1, as the Proton eMas 7 has led the pack for the entire 2025, which is the C-SUV’s first full year of sales (it was launched in December 2024).

Although there’s no CBU incentive-related price increase for the eMas 7 this year, December’s sales of 937 units was the SUV’s highest in 2025, contributing to a grand total of 8,677 units. Finishing a distant second is the BYD Sealion 7 with 4,454 units, nearly half that of the eMas 7. Interestingly, BYD Malaysia’s most expensive EV is its best selling one.

Completing the EV podium is the Tesla Model Y with 4.401 units. Again, the bigger and costlier of the two Teslas sold here ranked higher. Fourth is the BYD Atto 3 with 4,069 units and the Tesla Model 3 is fifth with 2,880 units.

BYD’s Atto 2 compact SUV (half a year of sales, 1,779 units, sixth place), M6 budget MPV (1,683 units, seventh) and Seal 6 sedan (four months of sales, 1,279 units, sixth place) filled up the other places in the top 10, helping the EV giant maintain its position as Malaysia’s top EV brand. The older but much sleeker Seal sedan fell out of the top 10 (1,056 units, 11th).

The other two spots in the top 10 list are premium models – the Zeekr 7X SUV (1,510 units, eighth) and the Denza D9 MPV (1,200 units, 10th). Speaking of luxury electric MPVs, the D9 beat the Zeekr 009 (914 units, 12th) and Xpeng X9 (644 units, 16th).

It should come as no surprise that this list is dominated by Chinese EVs and the two Teslas – the best-selling European EV is the Porsche Taycan at 19th (421 units, but this includes parallel imports). Geely-Mercedes-Benz JV brand smart is listed as 20th here, but the marque’s 414 units is spread across three models.

No Proton eMas 5? The affordable EV came too late to make an impact in 2025’s league table, but it’s sure to be a frontrunner this year.

The “EV tax free” ending in December 2025 smoked a lot of people into buying year end models. Now all kena potong, yikes
