Taman Daya, Bandar Seri Alam, Pasir Putih stations proposed for Kempas-Pasir Gudang passenger line

Johor public works, transport, infrastructure and communications committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said last month that passenger services are being proposed for the approximately-40-km single-track, un-electrified Kempas Baru-Pasir Gudang branch line. This line has hitherto only been used by Keretapi Tanah Melayu‘s (KTM) goods trains to bring containers in from the port.

He has now revealed, according to Bernama, that Taman Daya, Bandar Seri Alam and Pasir Putih have been proposed as sites for the construction of new stations along the line, so the route would be Kempas Baru – Taman Daya – Bandar Seri Alam – Pasir Putih – Pasir Gudang.

“At this stage, the relevant parties are also reviewing all technical aspects to ensure the best quality of service for the people of Johor. Let us together await positive developments on this project in the near future,” Fazli said on Facebook, adding that the plan to introduce the commuter service, which is still at the observation stage, could ease the Pasir Gudang Highway‘s heavy daily congestion.

He also included a photo of a diesel multiple unit (DMU) in the same post, suggesting that these trains – which are already working the single-track, un-electrified East Coast Line from Gemas to Tumpat – would be used instead of diesel loco-hauled trains. DMUs are currently branded KTM Intercity Shuttles – the Komuter brand is reserved for electrics. Could this change for this new passenger line?

Should include existing line to tanjung pelepas as well to cover area such as skudai, bukit indah, iskandar putri and gelang patah. For long term, consider upgrading the line to electrified double track
